Although considered to be the premier interpreter of the piano works of George Gershwin, Levant's importance as a pianist is often overshadowed by his popularity as the leading neurotic humorist of mid-20th century radio, movies, and television. This CD collection is an excellent showcase for his considerable talent and range as a serious musician, playing the works of several classical composers other than Gershwin.

I remember as a child listening to Oscar Levant. My parents used to buy me the records and I would listen over and over. Oscar was a genius there is no doubt about that. He was also very brilliant and extremely funny. This music brought it all back to me. No matter what age, you are swept into the wonderment of music.

Oscar Levant, besides being one of the great wits of all time, is a tremendous pianist. Worth the price of admission !!

This Levant work is a true classic. I'm so thankful to have found it. It's a staple go to. There is only one piece I skip over, but it may not be something you would skip over, so I will not tell you which one. Get this Cd of a Master.

Buy this and Levant plays Gershwin, they are both superb! Levant, who's film appearances I love, was foremost a world class pianist (and sometime composer). His playing is crystal clear, his technique excellent, and his delivery superb. I really think the time has come to reaquaint the world with Levant's back catalogue.
