5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Toy !
We purchased the Kick & play piano for our son when he was 2 months old. Within a week he had figured out how to turn it on himself ! No longer do we wake up to a crying baby, instead we wake up to nursery ryhmes ! It's also a great source of entertainment when you want a quick shower.

Based on reading other customer reviews I ordered this toy for our 8 month old thinking that it would have kick-play-value, music-tunes-value, and infant-piano-value. I was dissapointed on all counts. The "keys" are very big and the child ends up kicking only in one spot thus repeating the same sounds over and over again. The "keys" are also hard to press by hand and there are only 5 notes (not even a full scale) so it's useless as a piano. The sound is not very loud especially if placed on a soft surface. On the animal sounds setting, the animal sounds are cycled with some music notes so you can't even attract the child's attention with "meow" or "woof" sounds without interruption. The music tunes with flashing lights are ok but not great. My 8 month old showed no interest in this toy (and my wife was upset that I actually spent money on it :( ). Maybe this toy is appropriate for a 2 month old who is just learning to kick, but there are better, more interesting toys for older infants. (For example the Little Tikes Piano which our son just loves).

5.0 out of 5 stars This toy was a gift for my infant, but my toddler loves it!, July 10, 1999

The Kick N' Play Piano was a gift for my 6-week old son for Christmas. I put it in his crib and turned it on when he would spend awake time there. When my toddler son hears the animal sounds and familiar nursery rhymes, he asks to play with the baby. Now that the baby is sitting up, they play in the crib together and my toddler is "teaching" his baby brother the different animal sounds. He'll say, "dog, cat, cow..." and the baby laughs at him. Which only encourages him to do more. I feel that both of my sons are learning more than just animal sounds, names and songs, they are also learning to play together and enjoy each other. This is such an important lesson and one they will both value as they get older. We have a house full of toys, but the Kick N' Play Piano can be enjoyed by both of my sons together and for that, I would have to say it's my favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars Number One on My Son's First Christmas Wish List, November 20, 2000

I first had experience with this toy in the daycare center where I worked. All the children in my care (6-12 months) really enjoyed it-we attached the pianos to the outsides of the cribs so they could reach them while crawling and cruising. The pianos were a little loud, especially when some infants were napping while others were up and playing, but we would just divert their attention away from the pianos during "nap time". Now I have a 10 month old son and we have a good fried who has a baby 5 months younger. When we were visiting a few weeks ago, my friend brought out the piano for my son to play with b/c he was fussing. He went "nuts" for that piano, clapping his hands and screaming at it every time an animal sound was played. When my older daughter changed it to make musical sounds, he crawled over to it and began hitting it, then noticed the lights and got excited all over again. It brought us all a good chuckle to see him so facinated and excited over a toy. Every time we go to visit now, my friend has the piano ready and waiting for him so we can watch and laugh and play with him. This is definitely one toy Santa's going to find on my son's first Christmas wish list!!!

My baby is 4 months old. He LOVES his piano. I tied it to the back of a chair so he can kick it while in his bouncy seat. I finally have something to entertain him long enough to cook dinner!

I put the Fischer-Price Kick & Play by my baby's changing table when she was 2 months old and it was an instant hit. She was fascinated by the fun songs and awesome light show. She's now 10 months old and still cracks up each and every time it plays. I highly recommend it and also recommend that it be hung by a changing table. It's also a great tool to keep her from rolling over and crawling away at changing time... a BIG PLUS !!

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks Like Fun but Doesn't Keep Baby Interested, December 1, 1999

I thought this toy would be stimulating for my child but she rarely plays with it. We bought in when she was 2 months old. She liked the lights and music and would fall asleep to it sometimes. It doesn't have a timer and it will turn back on if the baby rolls over while sleeping and bumps it. When it turned on while she was asleep it would wake her up. Also, I have never seen her kick it to activate it and she is one year old now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Musical Fun for Your Little One, July 16, 1999

With it's 3 different musical settings, the Kick and Play Piano is great for all ages of babies. When she was a newborn my daughter loved listening to all the different nursery rhyme songs which it will play. It was a great soother at bedtime as you can make it play continuous music for several minutes. Then as she got older and figured out that kicking it made the sounds change, she loved the second setting, which plays animal sounds, drum beats, and short musical verses. A great time occupier for her when mommy needed a few minutes of free time in the morning. And now that she is close to a year old, we can take it out of the crib and set it flat on the floor, and she can use it like an actual piano, with the third setting which plays musical cords. This is a great toy, and was definately money well spent.

Someone at Fisher-Price deserves a big award for this one. My four-month-old daughter has loved this since she was born, and her 12-mo. triplet cousins are still using theirs. It's easy to use, the batteries last forever (a big pet peeve of mine) and the music doesn't get annoying even after three or four go-rounds. Drives the dog nuts, though.

The plastic cover over the lights did separate from the inside part, which is annoying but doesn't affect how it works. The nylon covering is easy to wipe off, and it's great to take along on trips to Grandma's house.

We had to take it out of her crib, because she'd play with it instead of napping. This one of the few baby toys we'd buy again!

While I am not into creating a "playpen" of my daughter's crib, this toy has been invaluable when it comes to tummy time. My daughter never tolerated being on her tummy for any length of time, until I pulled this toy out and put it flat on the floor in front of her. She is entertained while strengthening her back & neck, & is encouraged to creep forward & reach for the flashing lights.
