5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and lovely

2.0 out of 5 stars Listen - before you buy
This may be top of the piano music to your ears - but you should listen to parts of it on beforehand.
Had I done so - and not only read the reviews - I never would have bought it.

In the past two years some of the best jazz pianists
have recorded solo albums - many of them under a strong
influence of Keith Jaretts solo efforts. These are very
good efforts, but not brilliant.

Now with this particular solo album, Stefano Bollini has
joined the exclusive group of jazz piano artists that
have recorded solo and done so extremely well.
His style is not too influenced by Jarett's smooth
approach, although one can detect some of Jarett's
popular "Finger-breakers" here and there.

Bollini's independent style ranges from serious Jelly Roll
left hand attacks to simple cord progressions that may be
an influence from pianists like Tommy Flanagan and late
Wynton Kelly.

With this album Stefano Bollini has placed himself amongst
the finest jazz pianists that record today. His dynamic approach
is both sweet and lovely, but always firm and pleasantly dynamic.

5.0 out of 5 stars very nice, May 6, 2007
This review is from: Piano Solo (Audio CD)
this album is one of my favorites right now, bollani has an amazing concept of piano solo playing, that doesn't have to be called jazz specifically, he mixes so many different textures and ideas that make beautiful music, plus, he has an amazing tone on the piano, and as always, the recording quality by ECM records is great. A must have.

Beautifully balanced and crafted - highly creative, enormous range of textures evidenced in widely varying tunes like "Promenade" and "Maple Leaf Rag". A masterful work.

This is a beautiful musical journey; a remarkable combination of textures which are soothing and rejuvinating. The amazing dance of tension interlaced within makes for a bath of inspiration that is a joy to soak in.
