Disc features in a nutshell the dichotomy of the bifurcation of Belle Époque Gallic ésprit and ethos: heavy northerner Chausson vs. light southerner Ravel. Surprisingly, for all his "popularity," Ravel's piano Trio is infrenquently heard. Chausson's massive Trio is perfectly representative of his art. Nice disc--(musique d'abord series on Harmonia Mundi); nice price. What's not to like? . |
