Book Description

March 1996
"The most everyday object is a vessel; a vehicle of my thoughts." In Picasso's hands, cardboard, paper, and rope metamorphose into a guitar, a goat, a woman. His friend, the great photographer Edward Quinn, a privileged witness to Picasso's creative moments, recreates them here in 80 pages of everyday objects created in an imaginary world.

This review is from: Picasso: The Objects (Hardcover)
The Maestro, as Picasso was known to his intimates, excelled in his ability to heighten perception of the ordinary through the inevitable ways he transformed it. So many periods of modern art passed before his eyes and hands, he both spanned the generations and inspired generations to come.

His interest in the mundane, the unnoticed, drove a passion to transform objects we'd never think about - a bicycle seat, a chair, sticks and stones - all of which inform this wonderful collection.

As always: modern art is what you make of it. Picasso succeeded as few have before or since, in elevating ordinary objects to the realm of magical emblems that stimulate our collective imagination and desire for transformation.
