This book is certainly very good and very different then any other self help book on the market. However, to gain from it you must be willing to do it's total workbook component to it which is a lot of the book. I usually like or love books like that if there really good ones however, this one requires you to be able to get assistance from atleast 2 parents and 1 previous or ex husband, wife, or significant other. Not only that but the more group help you get with this very possibly the more this book will likely help you. It also forces you to remember alot of your past so if you don't and don't have relatives to remember it for you I don't recommend this book. The advice in it could be unnusual and right but most of it is given based on your grt workbook participation. There is more then a few inventories/tests in here. Plus, it's pricy. The other good thing is most of the advice you can rarely if ever see elsewhere so the author obviously did her homework and research.So unlike most self help books this book isn't at all simple but that's what makes it so unique and such a benefit to read!

As a social worker who specializes in couples counseling, Anne Teachworth's book has helped me make new insights and associations in my practice. Her connection from current adult relationships with spouses/partners to childhood relationships with that individual's parents is a stroke of genius. I literally am better able to predict and possibly prevent problems in couples' relationships because of Anne's book. I strongly recommend this book to anyone in the field of couples' counseling as well as those individuals interested in self-help. It should be a must read for any graduate program specializing in relationship counseling, especially pre-marital since the Selection Test in the book is accurately able to predict BEFORE a couple gets married, how their relationship will be after. Bravo Anne and thank you!

This is a deeply serious book. It is a guide on how to not end up opting for the poisonous mates which cause us harm, physically and mentally. It hits the nail on the relationship head by going deeply into our own family roots to see how we are scripted from birth to choose the mates we do. A must for anyone in, or thinking of entering into a relationship.

Thank you Anne Teachworth for writing the only relationship book that makes any sense. I've read almost every book on the market and WHY WE PICK THE MATES WE DO is the only one with actual tools that work and ideas that can be applied to any situation.

This book will radically change ANY relationship! I've passed a couple copies around to some friends and found it helps almost ANYONE in any situation. I'm surprised I'd never heard of any of the material before. It's so simple. So easy to incorporate into even the hairiest situations. An amazing read.

I found the book to be an excellent resource and tool in understanding relationships and problems in a marriage. The book is packed with exercises in which you write down notes about positives and negatives about relationships and helps you truly analyze why things are the way they are. I would highly recommend it to anyone in a bad relationship or marriage!
