I love this thing! I've been playing guitar for 28 years and can't fathom why the Pick Punch has gotten such lackluster reviews. It is true that the edges are a little rough when you first cut one, however, I just run it up and down my pants leg a couple times and it's good to go. If you consider how expensive picks are at a music store, this thing pays for itself in no time at all! And as far as the picks "wearing out," as one reviewer put it, I get 6 picks from a single card, so no biggie. The thickness of the cards is also good for the style I play (electric lead guitar), but I've also strummed my acoustic with the picks and I think they sound great! I'm always amazed how some blame a product for their lack of talent, but I digress. Bottom line: If you want a way to make countless picks for almost nothing, buy this product. If you like spending 4 bucks for a pack of 6 picks, well, go to your local music store.

1st off, this is indeed a 5 star item...but like with "Gift Card" (Luke), it is WAY overpriced here. Go to your favorite search engine, type in this product name, and you can actually buy it from the people that make the thing...and for HALF the price!!! I did it and bought 2 of them...one for my son, and one for my Father-in-Law, both love them. So do yourself a favor, and save some money!!! Enjoy & hope this helps!!!

Edit...(07Nov2013)
The price is perfect and just what it should be...

I had a lot of fun with this thing. I'm sure if you're looking at it you will as well. We made picks out of all kinds of things! Credit cards, old records, dvd cases, thin pressed wood, and that's probably the kind of things you're looking to do in getting one of these. The only real problem I had with it is the size of the picks. They just aren't long enough. They punch with kind of stubby ends and I found myself going to buy picks again fairly soon.
Great if you don't mind short nosed picks, and a great gift for a friend who is always out of picks! The picks themselves just weren't as useful to me as I'd have liked, so for me it wasn't really worth the amount i spent on it.

I'm a pro musician and music teacher. These are the original pick punches, by the company from the guy who invented them... At least that's what it says on his website. The others are knockoffs. They probably all work about the same, and they're all about the same price now, so why not support the dude who invented them. He's really into making picks, and has some pretty cool ideas and instructions on his website. I'm pretty crafty, and really like this. Bummed about rough edges? Buy a fine sanding sponge at any hardware store, sand the edges for a few seconds, and be done with it. He also sells sheets of plastic from his website, at quite good prices, and ink for stamping them. I got a cheap rubber stamp made with my URL for about $10 online, and make my own "business card" picks now. I also found some cool sheets of celluloid on eBay, it's not easy to find the right stuff but the picks I make now are just as good as any you would purchase, and the cost is way less for personalized pics anyway. If you need hundreds or thousands of picks made, well then you're better off ordering them, but I have fun making 10 or 20 of them at a time to hand out to potential students and clients. Oh yeah, I can still recycle old cards and stuff too, my students like bringing them in and making their own picks as well. Everybody knows that picks just evaporate when you lose them anyway, what could possibly be greener?

I bought this from uncommongoods.com for $25.00. I can't imagine why Amazon is double the price when they are usually lower than anyone else. Go buy it at: [...] for $25.00. By the way, this is a great item. I bought it for my husband who has punched everything in the house with it. Haha Buy one and you will love it!

Purchased this as a gift for my brother. He is a young guitarist who doesn't have a lot of money to spend... he loves this product because he can make picks out of anything. He has enjoyed making picks out of different materials and trying out the different sounds on the guitar.

After about 2 years of punching out plastic guitar picks, this flimsy product broke in half. I am no metallurgist, but the significant number of air pockets evident in the cleavage suggest to me a low quality grade of metal. I am not sure if there are many others who have experience this issue, but it should be noted. The crux area right below the springs will wear out, and the crumbly metal with crack and break. Based on the picture here, I was given a slightly different design as well. Someone should update this posting with the design that is delivered. Perhaps the original design is sturdier.
