Dr. Daniel captures the very heart and soul of early country music in the south, as this musical genre made its way from modest beginnings to prime time. This well-written detailed book displays it all - discussions about hit songs, solo pioneers, string bands, vocal groups, early radio stations, barn dances, touring groups, fiddle conventions, recording sessions and much more. Those with even a hint of interest in old-time music will find this book a prized addition to their library.

The music we all enjoy today did not just fall off a tree somewhere, it was grown. This book helps to document the growth of music in the United States. Whether you are a country music fan or not, you can appreciate how the early days of music evolved into the phenomenon that it became, thanks to the musicians who perservered. Mr. Daniel has delved deeply into the people, the talent and entertainers who changed the way we lived in America. I don't think that is an exaggeration. Although it reads a bit like a book of the bible at times, with names who begat other names, it is a tribute to all of those great entertainers to be listed here among the true pioneers of music. It was great to see their names here, preserved in time as they should be. I'm ready for Volume 2 next, because a lot more could be written about these days and some of the stars. Love the book.
