5.0 out of 5 stars A Band With Purpose And Talent!
I have seen these guys in concert twice now. They are as great live as they are on this CD. Seventh Day Slumber can put together lyrics and music with the best of them. On this particular CD, beginning with "I Know", they manage to create an inspiring message to people struggling through life's ups and downs - and sometimes life really takes us down.

This band is committed to their faith and helping people who are suffering major setbacks. I have met the band and talked briefly with each of them. These guys are doing what they do to bring the greatest message of all time to the masses, especially the masses who are on their last leg. At their concerts, they really reach out to people and pray with those in need. Their faith is strong and the center of their lives.

I have yet to hear a song by Seventh Day Slumber that I didn't like. These guys don't FILL in their CD with a song that's not ready for release - they work too hard to do that.

This CD is great from the first track to the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing to Slumber About Here, January 14, 2005

This review is from: Picking Up the Pieces (Audio CD)
I saw these guys live last summer having never heard any of their music. I was expecting to be mildly impressed and walked away blown away.

Seventh Day Slumber's message touched me in a way not many other bands have. When I got "Picking up the Pieces" I was just as equally blown away. With their earnestly honest songwriting, there's a reason this band has such a large underground following. The entire band is exteremly talented, but the strength in the band lies in the deep lyrics that all of us who are frustrated in life can related to.

Seventh Day Slumber's melodic hard rock sounds alot like the best parts of Staind, but also sounds similar to bands like Three Doors Down or Lifehouse (harder rocking tho). The lyrics touch on the tough parts of life, such as suicide, depression, feeling like a nobody, addiction to sin. While addressing life's sufferings, the songs also point to the hope that can be found only in Christ. Truly an amazing collection of songs that belong in everyone's collection. Anyone who feels frustrated and needs some hope should do themselves a huge favor and pick this one up. I'd have to say you'd be really missing out...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Seventh Day Slumber Fans!, December 26, 2007
This review is from: Picking Up the Pieces (Audio CD)
This album is an excellent insight to the band's earlier days. The content is awesome! The production of this album doesn't seem to be as "polished" as the latest two albums, but is totally Seventh Day Slumber. I especially enjoy the bonus tracks. A little bit bluesy and Joseph's lyrics shine! Any Seventh Day Slumber fan should have this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys rock!, July 20, 2004

I really enjoy listening to this band. Their music is very good, and sounds similar to bands like Creed and Kutless. In a movement of Worship centered songs, (which are great by the way) these guys bring a different tune to the table. They come from the point of view where they are or have been in the past, unhappy with who they are. They are truly falling on their knees and coming to Jesus, knowing that He is the only way to Heaven! They realize that they are sinners and need to repent and they thank the Lord!

I had never heard of these guys until I went to a concert at my church. They totally blew me away with the lyrical content of their songs. And the music TOTALLY JAMS. The album captures the essence of these guys and it is a great CD. The music brought me from smiles to tears (sometimes even in the same song). My fav's are "My Struggle", "Picking up the Pieces", and "Candy".

Great job guys.

Seventh Day Slumber - "Picking Up the Pieces"

There is no slumbering from these guys! This CD is packed with energy and intensity as they sing and play about life. Life is hard and Seventh Day Slumber understands. The guys have been there, they have experienced the emotions that they sing about, from struggles with anger and bitterness over a parents' divorce, to jail time for robbery, and a $400 a day drug habit, they understand. What sets this band apart from other rock bands? They offer hope.

I Know it's hard to take what's happening
And I know life is tough sometimes
I know it seems like there's no hope for you
But I know your life is worth more than you can see

And I say look at Jesus' hands
Those scars are there for you
You know He understands
What you're going through.

"I Know" is the first track on the CD and sets the stage. Lead singer Joseph Rojas compassionately relates to the listener that he knows that "it's hard to take what's happening", but then he commands an audience as he belts out an answer for the desperation...he points you toward Jesus. This song and the next track "Candy" are both hit singles on CCM rock radio and with good reason. Solid rock guitars and drums fronted by a singer whose voice is strong and vibrant, but versatile, with the ability to be soft and gentle. Seventh Day Slumber offers radio-friendly melodies and catchy hooks throughout the CD. There are also some amazing guitar solos throughout the album, especially in "More". One does not normally hear a lot of guitar work in Christian music, so that is a pleasant surprise.

Fans of Pillar, Pax 217, P.O.D., and secular bands like Creed and Staind will most likely enjoy this effort. The CD includes the band's rather generic cover of "When Children Cry" by White Lion. While I wouldn't say that this CD forges Christian music into any new territory musically or poetically, it is lyrically honest, which always appeals to the younger generation screaming to be heard. Seventh Day Slumber's message is bound to be heard if not only for that reason, but because this is a powerful CD to crank up loud!
