My fifth-grade students loved this. I kept it on the counter and watched them use it many times while writing, and I enjoyed seeing them have fun with language.

In a Pickle and Other Funny Idioms,
This review is from: In a Pickle And Other Funny Idioms (Paperback)
This is helping our child understand when we and other adults use idioms while it expands her vocabulary. My 5 year old (who reads on a 3rd grade level) loves it and reads it as a joke book while leaning things far ahead of her time. Terban includes the origin of the idiom and the cartoon picture drives home the message. This is a reference just a necessary as a dictionary.

This was a fun, little idiom book. It would be great for kids, and I enjoyed the illustrations (despite the opinions of the other reviewers). It definitely is good for a few hours of fun with your child, and I would have given it five stars if it wasn't so short. Nonetheless, it is a really fun book by one of the leading authors in the idiom book market. Pickle of a Review,

Cute book, great black & white drawings. I found more fun than my 3rd grader. Would have been nice to have origins of idioms - but does give explaination in kid terms. Many idioms are the same in other books, so only buy one at a time.

A Great Book For Older Kids Learning English!,

This review is from: In a Pickle: And Other Funny Idioms (Paperback)
I love this book for my two girls who were adopted at the ages of 6 and 8 from Ethiopia. They are still very literal with their language and this book helped with sayings, idioms and just general knowledge of becoming fluent in English! Great for everyone really!

While the illustrations in this book are not as rich as in books like "My Momma Likes to Say" and "My Teacher Likes to Say," you do escape the sing-songy rhyming and "poetic" attempts that are present in those books when you read, "In a pickle." While not as colorful or rich, this books illustrations are immensely useful and detailed. This book is an excellent tool when teaching students the difference between literal and figurative language, and this books works better than the others for independent learning centers or activities. Each idiom is explained and illustrated, and my students loved it! I would highly recommend this book to teachers who have lessons on idioms or figurative language!

If you ever wonder where the silly sayings like "your eyes are bigger than your stomach" or "straight from the horses mouth" come from, you must get this book. Filled with many examples, accompanying cute illustrations, and a detailed explanation of what the idiom means and where it came from is all included in this short, but sweet book.

I love this book!It helps me to teach idioms in my EFL classroom in a much more interesting way. The drawings are very understandable and students have a nice time looking at them.

This book is written on a child's level. It is very short in length and the book has stains on it from spills (I can only assume). I expected more and received much less.
