What happens when imagination and connection join forces? In Lu Hanessian's Picnic on a Cloud, an otherwise ordinary moment between a boy and his mother becomes a window to their magical adventure. Through the power of curiosity and inspiration, Ben follows his own sense of wonder as he and his mom discover the heart of connection. Together, they reveal the impossible under their own roof -- sparked by a wish, a question, and plenty of Imagination Fuel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who doesn't want to fly? May 23, 2011
When I was young, I had a recurring dream in which I could fly - but only in the sunlight. In my dream, I'd be walking with a friend and telling her I could fly, and since this was hard to believe, she'd say to me, "Prove it. Let me see you fly." Problem was, every time I was put to the test, a cloud would pass over, bringing shade, and I couldn't get off the ground. I still remember the frustration I would feel, knowing the truth, but unable to prove it.

Despite the passage of many years, I still believe I can fly, and yet in so many ways I find myself earthbound, unable to soar as high as I have the natural power to do. "Picnic on a Cloud" brings back hope and dreams, endless possibilities and adventure. It is a work of freshness and vitality, and speaks to the child and adult in us all.

The mother's concern about HOW to make a dream happen and IF one will like something new exemplifies what we adults like to call "maturity", (instead of doubt and fear), while the blissful bird shows the joy of soaring freely into the unknown.

I loved this book! In a few imaginative words, and with its extravagantly beautiful artwork, it opened doors in my mind and heart that made me feel young and excited about life again.
