4.0 out of 5 stars Funny satirical CD, at times even pretty
AC's infamous satirical CD "Picnic of Love" is a total 180 degree turn from their usual we-offend-everybody grindcore. This is just Seth Putnam singing along (usually falsetto) to an acoustic guitar. 2.0 out of 5 stars i am bringing my little pony to my picnic of love
A.C. is George Alan Rekers favorite band, because so many of their ideas are shared concerning you-know-who.
But "Picnic of Love" is his absolute *favorite* ' '
This album is a departure from most of A.C's output. Gone are the melodic elements, the superb engineering ("look out Steely Dan"), for this is their "unplugged" version.
Lovely acoustic...

AC's infamous satirical CD "Picnic of Love" is a total 180 degree turn from their usual we-offend-everybody grindcore. This is just Seth Putnam singing along (usually falsetto) to an acoustic guitar. The songs are hilarious. They're all about sensitivity, trimming gardens full of flowers, waterfalls, chastity, going on long walks with "that special girl", saving mother earth, etc. Picture a couple of peace and love devoted junior high school kids in a mid-70s folk band - that should give you an idea of what this stuff feels like.

One song starts out:

"I saw your deep blue eyes from afar
I saw you at the church bazaar
I asked the priest to introduce me to your mother
And I asked her to introduce us to each other"

This from the same group that wrote a song called "Kill Women" where the only lyrics are:

"Kill Women
Die"

The amazing part is that some of the songs are actually quite pretty. The guitar playing is really quite good.

Although Seth's singing on "I'm Not That Kind of Boy" is just frightening

...to make an album this brilliant. I'd been a long-time AC fan, but when my friend told me about this album, I was impressed. Not nearly impressed, however, as I was when I actually HEARD the CD!!!! I didn't realize they actually knew how to play Bon Jovi-style acoustic guitar for starters, and Seth (somehow) sings the whole damn album without bursting into laughter. The listener, of course, can do nothing but burst into laughter. If you want to make this album even more fun, listen to it in-between other AC albums. Totally amazing, and miles above the call of duty.

God, I really love AC. This album is just so funny. The way he sings it is genius. "GREED IS SOMETHING WE DON'T NEED" heh. Makes a real change. Excellent.

This is the funniest damned album I ever heard. A noise/grind band plays acoustic love ballads.

5.0 out of 5 stars completely different, November 20, 2006
This review is from: Picnic of Love (Audio CD)
than anything else AC has done, obviously
but the cd is quite good
considering this is the same band that spewed forth such songs as "youve got cancer" and "i convinced you to beat your wife on a daily basis", you never know what to expect, and this definately wasnt expected
the guitar playing is quite impressive, and the vocals are...interesting
basically, if you love AC, and you want a good laugh, spend the $40 something dollars and pick this up
its worth it, especially cause they only made 3000 of these
good buy..

5.0 out of 5 stars interesting, November 5, 1999

This cd is hilarious! I was expecting the lyrics to be more like a joke, but they're serious. That's what makes this cd so funny. They probably did this cd as a joke, but these songs have better lyrics than REAL love songs. Seth uses his high-pitch voice on this cd that he uses on the song "I Just Saw The Gayest Guy On Earth". This is a good cd to play for your girlfriend if you're trying to sock it to her. This cd is a must, even if you don't like A.C.'s other stuff.

AxCx can do love songs. And, like their classic grindcore, this manages to takes things up to eleven as well.

Can you handle Seth's falsetto voice to some very good acoustic guitar? How about gallons of deliberately over-the-top lyrics that can send diabetics into comas? Even if it's slightly off-key it still is one hilarious ride. It even has a message track that pokes fun at the "greed is bad" envirowacko liberals. If you can handle all of that then this is the album for you!

Cuddly? Sensitive? Loving? Oh, lots of loving! It completely turns the love song genre on its head. It's shows how most love songs are really pathetic in general as pure misdirection for the sake of articulating the "please screw me" statement in as obtuse a manner as possible. Not since Anthrax's "N.F.B." was I this pleased.

Don't worry. AxCx fans know what Seth and his band is up to. It's hard not to take anything they do seriously. When grindcore goes "romantic" it's very hard not to laugh very hard at the results. There are even birds and a squirrel on the cover! The final track on the album even subverts the album as well as Seth "gets better" after his experiment in love ballads draws to a close.

Fun stuff! And, yes, there is a "Picnic Of Love: Part II" in the works.

Lovely acoustic guitar accompanies deeply felt lyrics that inspire warm hugs all around. The vocals remind one of a mixture of Jonathan Richman and Karen Carpenter!
My biggest disappointment was that Bostonian Seth Putnam chose to make fun of himself with this release. Shame on you Seth Putnam! You are so naughty!
Can't wait for the MUSAK release of these classics for my elevator.

5.0 out of 5 stars unbelievable, November 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Picnic of Love (Audio CD)
This is one of the funniest cds out there. I played this cd at my workplace and everybody just about busted a gut. The vocals kind of sound like a drunken Elmo. This cd is great for laughs. If you have all of A.C.'s other releases, try out this one. It's slightly different, but the humor is still there.
