5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars BASED ON ONE CUT!, August 11, 2002
This review is from: Picnic: Music From The Soundtrack Of The Columbia Picture (Audio CD)
Cut 6 (A medley of "Moonglow" and film composer's "Love Theme") is the highlight of the album. This is the music featured during the sensual dance between stars William Holden and Kim Novak.

My heart thumps when I hear it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A faithful reissue, December 22, 2000
This review is from: Picnic: Music From The Soundtrack Of The Columbia Picture (Audio CD)
This s an exact replica of the 1956 LP soundtrack, only now it is in true stereophonic sound. George Duning's score is unique and sticks in the memory. The marriage of "Moonglow" and the "Love Theme" (from the dance scene) is a masterpiece and will stimulate in your mind the visuals which it accompanies. The sound is quite good considering the age of the tape masters.

I have seen the movie Picnic hundreds of times and love it as much now as when it was released. Part of the reason for enjoying the movie is the soundtrack. I own the original album and of course purchased the CD. The music evokes many emotions,in particular, the beautiful and romantic Moonglow and theme from Picnic. I love the entire sound and highly recommend this soundtrack especially to those who appreciate the music of the fifies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best musical score ever., November 16, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Picnic: Music From The Soundtrack Of The Columbia Picture (Audio CD)
I saw this movie as a teenager and again and again, many, many times. It embodies all that Hollywood excelled at...a simple folksy story of a small American town and its down to earth inhabitants.

Without detracting from the films excellent cinematography, and acting performances by Holden, Novak, Strasbourg, Robertson etc.etc., its musical score I would rate as the alltime best, and would think that Morris Stoloff's musical talent has not received the accolades he deserves. Whatever happened to the track of "Ain't She Sweet"...and as for "Moonglow" the best arrangement ever! Were there any other film soundtracks that Morris arranged or conducted?

4.0 out of 5 stars A mustfor romantics, September 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Picnic: Music From The Soundtrack Of The Columbia Picture (Audio CD)
A must for people who grew up in the 50's. This award winning album has it's main theme "Theme from Picnic" weaving throughout all but one of the songs(Moonglow). If you saw the movie when you were young - or even lately, this will bring back fond memories. I would have given it 5 stars, but people who have not seen the movie would have to guess how some of the music and movie were interrelated. "Moonglow" and "Love Theme from Picnic" are equisitely put together. Makes you want to see the movie again.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite film and soundtrack, September 22, 2007

Summer and Smoke and Picnic are my favorite films and soundtracks.
There is a stunning scene in Picnic where the two stars meet on a dance floor that is unrivaled in film to this day.
Modern film makers don't have a clue as to understanding that sexual
sparks are off the charts in this film and there is not one scene of nudity in it.Or sex.
That dance floor with those lanterns and that stunning soundtrack have stayed with me my entire life. The meeting of those two on the dance floor is my # 1 favorite scene in a movie.

The two soundtracks add to and are a huge factor in both films.
If you can get your hands on both films and both soundtracks you won't regret it.
They both are perfection.
My second is Summer and Smoke when the wind picks up and the leaves start
blowing away..and she talks about the wheels of fate have turned in a cruel way.
Moments of cinema magic..

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved the movie, I love the music, January 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Picnic: Music From The Soundtrack Of The Columbia Picture (Audio CD)
I was born in the early 50s in Sydney Australia. Grew up listening to my "parents music etc." I have now grown up (i think?!), & list this soundtrack as one of my all time favourites. Luckily I have been privileged to be able to appreciate all types of music inluding Classical, Bill Haley, The Beatles, Beach Boys, Motown, some heavy metal, new age, meditation & even Elvis. So I don't think I'm too "narrow" in my taste of music. I just love Moonglow.
