I just purchased this for myself, and bought another, as a wedding gift for my best friend. It is wonderful! Perfect for the family outing! I love to go on local day trips. This is perfect to pack a lunch and take on a short hike, or walk around the park to find that special spot, near the lake! Pack hot or cold lunch... take juice or wine. We have all the essentials right at our finger tips. There is even room to pack a wallet or small purse.

We are going to love this all summer!

I got this for my mom as a wedding present. She and her new husband took it on their honeymoon in Hawaii, and used it often when they went on excursions or just for a day at the beach. They really seem to like it. It's sturdy and the utensils and dishes are full size (some of the ones I looked at had mini-sized dishes and utensils, and they looked like play sets). Overall, a cool, practical gift.

I returned the item. I bought it as a wedding gift for a couple who do a lot of hiking, but the quality (stiching, etc) was just cheap looking, with lots of loose threads, especially on the napkins.

I have 2 picnic backpacks: this one and another I paid twice as much for. The plates and cutlery are the same quality in each backpack. The more expensive backpack feels like better quality, but both are insulated to keep hot/cold foods. I don't day hike with these backpacks I just find it an easy way to go from the car/home to the pool, lake, beach. When we hike we use the cooler linked in the comment box below because we can keep our lunch cold, hold other items and take it on an airplane.

The backpack is all that is needed, except that exterior is not water-proof. The place settings are not heavy-duty but are good enough for our needs. The glasses are pretty thin plastic. More will be known when it has been used some.

Wow, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed this. I purchased two different picnic backpacks, and will bring the best to Europe. The fact that this was lighter in weight, I was hopeful. This was VERY cheaply made, and will likely fall apart before I leave the house. The most shocking concern is that it comes with a copied notice that says something to the effect of "DO NOT WASH IN WATER. WIPE WITH A DAMP CLOTH." It is really not clear what this applies to since it was sitting in the pouch in front of the plastic cutting board. Does it apply to ALL of the dishes? The eating utensils look like they're probably going to rust. But...what can you complain about at this price? Perhaps the fact that you can purchase one from Sierra Trading Post for about $40 (after the 10% new customer discount), that is AT LEAST twice the quality, asthetically superior, durable, washable, not going to embarass you, etc. I would give this one 1 little star. *. There it is. I'm bringing the other one to Europe!
Buy Sierra Trading Post's "Picnic Time Safari Backpack - 4 Person" It costs around $89 elsewhere. I purchased all four colors for x-mas gifts as well, and can tell you that the "dark wine" color combination is probably the best. ENJOY!!

The Picnic pack is more substancial than the 2 place pack we had. However it arrived inadequately packaged for shipment. It looked like it was stepped on. One of the wine glasses was cracked and much of the plastic wrapping on the utensils was off. I did not return it for one cracked glass -- will buy some plastic glasses to replace the broken one and have spares.
