Best Sourcebook on Civil War Bands,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Pictorial History of Civil War Era Musical Instruments and Military Bands (Paperback)
The subject of Civil War bands is a fascinating one and very timely as we are celebrating the sesquicentennial of the Civil War right now. The author is a preeminent expert on these bands and a collector of the old instruments. I have met him at a re-enactor band concert and he was delighted to share his great knowledge with me. The idea of sending bands out into the battlefield with no weapons to protect them is poignant. And the young age of some of the bandsmen is sadly amazing. It is a subject that needed to be covered. This is the best book on this subject.
