5.0 out of 5 stars This group keeps getting better!, January 8, 2001

This review is from: The Pictou Sessions - An Acoustic Album (Audio CD)
While I liked "The Factory", especially the song "Twelve", this album is far superior. The first Seven Nations concert I attended was shortly after "The Factory" album came out and they blew me away. These guys bring the house down at every Live Concert they do. I purchased this album at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, when it was still in pre-release. That night I heard the songs live before ever hearing them recorded. The album is just as good as it was live! Dan really rocks on the fiddle and doing his Celtic dancing on stage is impressive. You can FEEL the emotions that went into these recordings...all the tunes come from the heart. These guys are probably the most talented musicians I have heard, both in writing and performing. If you like bagpipes, fiddle, or just good Celtic music, you must purchase this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars I dare you to try and sit still, November 1, 2000

I saw these folks perform at the Richmond (Va) Highland Games this past weekend... After hearing them play "Scream" and "All You People" I was hooked. I bought this CD without knowing anything else about this music. I was not disapointed. Trust me when I tell ou that a fiddle and the bagpipes fit in perfectly with rock and roll.

If you like quality music that will stir your soul, listen to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars You need to hear these guys..., July 15, 2004

I saw 7N live for the first time last September at the Irish Fest in Albany, NY. They absolutley blew me away. I was mainly there for the beer, and to catch Hair of the Dog later that night, but I got a tip from a friend who told me to check these guys out. The bagpipes gave me chills, and the energy was unbelievable. This CD is on repeat in my car, but like everyone says, you need to see them live. It's truly an unbelievable experience. I'm flying out to Cleveland this summer to catch them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, great music!, December 7, 2001

If it is possible to wear out a CD, I may do it with this one. I love Celtic music and rock and roll, and the blending of the two that 7N achieves is truly fantastic. Both the fiddle and the bagpipes are used expertly with emotion, soul, or to just plain rock your socks off. See this band live if and when they come to your hometown; I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars See this band LIVE, July 18, 2001

Yes, Orange Park is the hometown of singer/writer/piper/guitarist/ keyboardist of this band, Kirk Macleod. Now that they are on a major label (and , buy these indie releases now, they won't last long. Kudos to you, Amazon, for carrying them!), so glad to hear people are discovering these incredibly talented guys. Have seen them many times, at Highland Games, to small clubs to concert halls, and they ALWAYS deliver! Saw them with Ashley MacIssac playing with them last year, INCREDIBLE! These guys are going places! This particualr album highlights all their best from the older albums, but re-done 'un-plugged', very, very tasty! Not a bad song here.

How's that for a plug, Kirk!

5.0 out of 5 stars The new live album?, August 2, 2000
By
This review is from: The Pictou Sessions - An Acoustic Album (Audio CD)
As most everyone agrees, Seven Nations is at its best at the live performances. With both RoadKill albums now out of print and line-up change since Neil left in '98, 7N fans have needed an album to bring the live concert home. And while The Pictou Sessions is not techically a live album, it definitely has the feel of the live shows. The new recordings of "Scream" and "God" are not to be missed, as having Dan on fiddle adds an entirely new element to the fan favourites. The new songs "King of Oblivion" (David Bowie reference?), "All You People," and "Rare Auld Time" are some of my all-time 7N favourites. The Pictou Sessions is an important step in the evolution of Seven Nations, and not an album to be missed.

I just loved this cd the very first time I heard it. I had heard a cut from a friend's mix called, God. It made me want to get the whole cd and it is certainly a winner! Every cut is just wonderful and exactly what I was looking for. If you like the scottish theme, bagpipes and rock and violin you won't be disappointed in this selection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite CDs, July 1, 2006
This review is from: The Pictou Sessions - An Acoustic Album (Audio CD)
Of all the Seven Nations albums, the Pictou Sessions has got to be the best. (I haven't heard Thanks for Waiting yet). This really shows the bands style in the fiddle-pipe collaborations in the lively jigs, blended well with Kirk McLeod's vocals and piano in some of the mellower tunes. Pick this CD up, and see them live, they are awesome!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Pictou Sessions - An Acoustic Album (Audio CD)
Everything happened when I listened to them for the first time two months ago, through internet. They are very original. Besides the album "Palace Theatre" has really contributed to a new concept of rock and roll. I hope one day they come to Brazil in order to make a show, I'm sure they will have a lot of fans who will love seeing them singing alive.

The Pictou Album is outstanding! I have been to live perfomances of this incredible band at Highland Festivals in Colorado. This album definetly reminds one of those very moving live performances. If you are a fan of Seven Nations this album is a must own. The music is fun!! One is apt to start swaying and dancing to their music with little effort. My four year old just loves to dance to their music!
