David Adler does it again,
By
This review is from: A Picture Book of Sitting Bull (Picture Book Biography) (Library Binding)
David Adler writes wonderful history for young people. He tells you all about it, and in this book about Sitting Bull, Samuel Byrd's illustrations show you everything. There is motion on every page - women tan hides, boys race horses, people go to battles and pan for gold, people have visions, people flee the reservation, people die in bloody ways. All the motion on these pages make this a gripping story, in addition to a true one. This book explains the conflicts between the US Government and the Sioux people, including broken treaties and the reservation policies. It explains how white settlers moved onto Sioux lands and the displacement that caused. It explains the Army policy of containment of the Indians, and when that failed, the move to eliminate native peoples. Very well done book; honest without being depressing or accusing.

Great for Elementary Students,

This review is from: A Picture Book of Sitting Bull (Picture Book Biography) (Library Binding)
This is an informational picture book for young students studying Sitting Bull. I would recommend the book for early elementary students learning about Plains Native Americans. The book is also well illustrated.
