From Booklist
The 4th edition of a book first published 23 years ago is a major revision that contains primarily new entries. It begins with a cohesive and informative introduction to picture books and criteria for their evaluation. Most of the book, however is made up of annotated bibliographies grouped by such themes as "Me and My Family," "The World I Live In," and "The Imaginative World." Cianciolo, a professor of children's literature, has chosen books that reflect current publishing trends as well as selections that will appeal to a librarian's young audience. Illustrations from the picture books (reproduced only in black-and-white) appear every few pages. A list of other helpful books about art rounds out the treatment. Ilene Cooper
