About the Author

Ezra Jack Keats (1916–1983) is the Caldecott Medal winning author of The Snowy Day, which broke ground in 1962 as one of the first picture books for young children to portray a realistic, multi-cultural urban setting. Since its initial publication, The Snowy Day has come to be regarded as both a children’s classic and one of the most important picture books ever written/illustrated. Ezra Jack Keats’ legacy lives on in the popularity of his most famous character, Peter—the star of The Snowy Day, Whistle for Willie, Peter's Chair, A Letter to Amy, Goggles, and others. Archie says "hi" to a cat, then it follows him around. Archie and Peter then put on a street show, and the cat jumps inside Archie's paper bag costume, and the show is over! The cat ruined the performance!
This is another solid book from Ezra Jack Keats. Archie is also a character in his _Whistle for Willie_, and several others. Peter is the same character from _Whistle for Willie_, _Peter's Chair_, and _A Letter to Amy_.
Archie shows how to make the best of a bad situation, and the characters show cleverness and ingenuity. The sense of playful spontaneity is probably better conveyed here than in Keats' other books. Highly recommended.

The illustrations are beautiful and original. You can see the brush strokes that Ezra Jack Keats uses along with his collage work that he carries from his others books like Snowy Day. This book is unique and is not your traditional picture story book. It is based on a retelling of a kids day, which makes the book realistic and original. Archie never knew that saying "hi" to a cat would ultimately befriend him. This book shows a funny relationship between a human and an animal. It truly is a friendly book between a cat and a child. I woould read this to my own children and possibly to my future students in a kindergarten classroom.

Archie says hi to a cat as he walks by to go see his friends. The cat follows him and trouble ensues. His show for his friends may not go how he plans. Is he able to make it all work?

Mr. Keats is a fantastic Children's author. The illustrations are beautiful. The story is simple yet a fun romp. The author really knows how to keep things light and fun. I enjoyed the fun the kids had with each other.

Archie loves to put on shows for his friends. What a cute kid and so friendly. The cat is curious like most cats are. I am loving this author's work. I hope to read more by him and see what the characters in his stories get up to next.
