Archie says "hi" to a cat, then it follows him around. Archie and Peter then put on a street show, and the cat jumps inside Archie's paper bag costume, and the show is over! The cat ruined the performance!

This is another solid book from Ezra Jack Keats. Archie is also a character in his _Whistle for Willie_, and several others. Peter is the same character from _Whistle for Willie_, _Peter's Chair_, and _A Letter to Amy_.

Archie shows how to make the best of a bad situation, and the characters show cleverness and ingenuity. The sense of playful spontaneity is probably better conveyed here than in Keats' other books. Highly recommended.

Archie says hi to a cat as he walks by to go see his friends. The cat follows him and trouble ensues. His show for his friends may not go how he plans. Is he able to make it all work?

Mr. Keats is a fantastic Children's author. The illustrations are beautiful. The story is simple yet a fun romp. The author really knows how to keep things light and fun. I enjoyed the fun the kids had with each other.

Archie loves to put on shows for his friends. What a cute kid and so friendly. The cat is curious like most cats are. I am loving this author's work. I hope to read more by him and see what the characters in his stories get up to next.

Like most of Keats' books, this is less of a STORY story than just a retelling of a kid's day. I think that's what makes them so good, actually - they're very realistic.

So Archie is walking to play with the other kids, and he casually says "Hi" to a random cat. And the cat follows him. Archie goofs off for a bit, pretending that he has a beard instead of a popsicle stain on his chin, and that he's a monster in a giant paper bag (the cat ruins that by climbing around inside), and that the dog Willie is really very tall (the cat ruins that by hopping on the fence so Willie chases him). Actually, everything goes wrong because of the cat, as his friend notes! But Archie isn't so sure.

When he gets home, he tells the whole story to his mother, who thinks it's good that the cat left. What a pain! But we can see the whole scene - as Archie tells his mother that he thinks the cat just kinda of liked him, we can see the cat sitting on the stoop. Hee :)

There's not much that really happens in the story. There's no moral message, there's no zany slapstick humor, there's none of... any of that. It's just a simple story about a kid being a kid. You definitely want this (and most of Keats' books, for that matter) on your bookcase. Some 40 years after they were first published, and they're just as great now as they were then.

A funny story about a cat's playfulness and how it interfered with two boy's drama for neighborhood friends.
