5.0 out of 5 stars Why did MSN ever stop selling this software and try? to incorporate it in vista.
I had an earlier copy of picture it software and misplaced it between computer upgrades.
I purchased a copy on the internet, version 7.0, and could not be happier.
I have photoshop and prefer this for most of my photo editing and printing.

Absolutely inferior to its predecessor! This is a downgrade. For some reason, this seems to be a labotomized version of the last one. If you're interested in the Picture it! series, find the older versions. This version has removed a number of tools, such as the special effects tools. The silly putty tool is gone. There used to be a tool to blur edges, a very important tool when you cut and paste, when you need to remove the jagged edges. And if you want to resize text, you have to change the font point size in the menu. Before, you could simply resize the window. The only noteworthy additions are more title effects. I want a refund. There is no compelling reason to buy this program. I have also noticed that it defaults to using the inferior .png format instead of the .mix format, and the program is still buggy. I hate it. Its a waste of money. Get the older version. Its better and cheaper. Stay away from this product. Be skeptical of anyone giving it a good rating. It doesn't sound like they know what they're talking about.

Don't buy it. This is a scaled down version of previous offerings - and for more money! M/S has taken away loads of good features and replaced them with nothing worthwhile. It's the kind of a program that you'd normally get free with a new scanner. Yes, it does the basics, but for a user of Picture it 2000, 2001 or 2002, this is NOT an upgrade.

Have used Picture it for years and loved every version a little more with each version, until now. The Picture It Photo Premium in high tech terms [is bad]. Looks good, installs well. But it lacks a lot of the standard flexiblity in previous versions. I was expecting a lot more and got a lot less!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple and does what I want!, December 17, 2002

I haven't used this software before this version (so will not comment on lost functionality from prior versions). I had previously used Adobe software. Anyway, I had wanted a photo editing program that was simple and not cluttered with tools that I didn't need. I also didn't need to pay for another program that created albums, etc.

My primary needs was corrections of photos from my Canon S40 digital camera. Since I use XP, I didn't need anything beyond:
* red eye removal - this program does a great job at fixing this.
* white balance correction - this program also does a great job at this.
* general levels correction - this program allows you to simply click one button and allow it to automatically correct the photos. I use this when I am somewhat lazy, but honestly it is pretty much all I need for most of my photos. You can also manually adjust contrast, etc. but you don't need to.

If you are like me - that is a person who needs a program that does some simple photo corrections on a program that is intuitively set out (thereby requiring no manual reading or prior editing knowledge), then this is the program for you. This program also installs easily and doesn't clutter up anything on my PC.
The main competition for this program is probably Adobe Photoshop Elements, although I think that program can do a lot more. The downside of that program is that it costs more, is more complicated and is not as intuitive to use. Actually, Adobe Photo Deluxe is more on par with this program, but Adobe stopped selling it mid 2002.

5.0 out of 5 stars So easy to use, everybody should get it, September 22, 2002

For simple photo scanning and editing tasks at home, Picture It is one of the best packages around, and it's truly very easy to use, yet not condescending like Adobe's offerings. This new version sports a cleaner interface and fixes a few old bugs. Recommended.
