Book Description

March 16, 2001

The hot desert winds and gold mines of Goldfield, Nevada make California's cool valley breezes and peaceful farms seem like heaven on earth. And though O. T. Skinner constantly dreams of moving west, he and his family are still in the sin-filled boomtown. They don't have much, but they do have each other.

O.T. loves his strong-minded, independent wife who takes care of their family as well as the miners who depend on her warm meals and friendly nature. But the days in her café are long, and Dola Mae is finding out the hard way what it's like to be on the receiving end of a helping hand--and she can only pray it doesn't become permanent.

Dola Mae knows she is blessed to be married to a man who'd do anything for his family and friends, no matter the risk; but she's terrified she'll lose him. Her fear may become reality when O.T.'s generosity puts his life--and the lives of his loved ones--in jeopardy one too many times.

Through it all, the Skinners remain a portrait of virtue and strength, making them the rarest of treasures in a town built on gambling all for a little gold.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Skinner Family 's Biggest Challenge, August 29, 2001
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Picture Rock (The Skinners of Goldfield, Book 3) (Paperback)
Dola and O.T. Skinner and their 4 children are in Goldfield, NV, still dreaming of raising grapes in Dinuba, CA.

One year has passed since they arrived in this gold crazed boom town. The Newcomer's Cafe has flourished especially since their motor car is lodged inside the front wall! Wall Walker is hired for new jobs and is probably the only really trusted man in town - however, he makes one big enemy while helping a woman regain her legal home. That enemy swears to do him in.

The two former feuding outlaw gangs have joined forces and made O.T. a seventh "partner" of sorts. Mexico gold lures them as soon as they can leave the voluptuous sister of Goldfield's most famous Indian, Fergus.

A serious, lifethreatening illness overtakes Dola Mae and for the first time, O.T. considers himself as greedy and as guilty as the men who lust and kill for gold. After all, he has literally run his wife into her sick bed in his quest for his dream of moving to California. Will his dream take his wife from him?

This third book in the Skinners of Goldfield series by Bly certainly contains the most action, adventure and intrigue of the three.

This review is from: Picture Rock (The Skinners of Goldfield, Book 3) (Paperback)
Stephen Bly is one of my favorite authors. Story is the 3rd installment of the series. Hold the readers attention, which is the way I like a book to be written. Good clean Christian values and lessons learned.

5.0 out of 5 stars CHRISTY AWARD FINALIST!, August 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Picture Rock (The Skinners of Goldfield, Book 3) (Paperback)
By this third book, I really got close to the Skinner family and shouted cheers with the crowd at the finale. This family oriented western touched me with its poignancy and humor.
