Forgive me all you, "Boogie- Quo" fans. For me, the band's first album is their opus! This album, released in 1968, was the follow-up to their first single (they released 3 under the name of "specters"), "Pictures of Matchstick man", which was one of the greatest song of the British psychedlic era. Driven by a monstarus guitar-riff, a vox organ, haunting harmonies and a distinctive phasing this was excellent and became an international hit! The rest of this album is, more or less, the same. The best tracks are: 'Elizabth dream', 'When my mind is not alive' (both sang beutifully by Parfit) and the wonderful "Technicolour dreams" which is Quo's best song ever. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album of the sixties!, October 17, 2001
This review is from: Picturesque Matchstickable Messages From the Quo (Audio CD)

"Down Down"). Empfehlenswert.

5.0 out of 5 stars psych rock debut, January 16, 2011

This review is from: Picturesque Matchstickable Messages From the Quo (Audio CD)
quo at this time had been around a few years under different names , then they put out this classic psych rocker and were a hit band. They continued the greatness right up til' today. This one had two hits on it, 'pictures of matchstick man' and 'ice in the sun' , although the band did this type of music well , it can be a pop psych to straight psych mix they only did one more disc like it. "spare parts" in 69 before moving on to boogie rock in 1970.
this is great music for fans of psych rock and sixties music too. The two disc version is the better one to get but casual fans will want this one. And remember that in 1970 they turned into a hard rockin boogie band that made some of the greatest rock of the period.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty GROOVY, May 29, 2001

This album is very psychedelic sounding and in my opinion the best by the status quo. I personally think that this album is pretty hilarious.....just listen to some of the songs...anyways... there arte a lot of electronics used on this album..so it sounds a little different then other sixties albums. None teh less, it is still excellent! I would definatly recommend this to any9one into the psychedelic sixties.
