Messages From The Quo,
By Blabberless (In the world somewhere) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Picturesque Matchstickable Messages from the Status Quo [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Although not much like their signature '3 chords no waiting' heavy boogie rock later in their career, this release had alot going for it. Called "Messages From The Status Quo" in the states, on the Cadet Concept label, it's single Pictures Of Matchstick Men was all over the radio in the late 60s, and rightly so. I still crank up the radio the few times the track is played these days, mainly because the DJs now are either too young to know about it, or don't have the cahonies to play it. The overall sound of the album is solid British pop psych with interesting songs layered with phasing and other effects, and for a first album, 1968 was definately a banner year thanx to this one and the few like it.

Status Quo - 'Picturesque Matchstickable Messages From The Staus Quo' (Earmark),
By
This review is from: Picturesque Matchstickable Messages from the Status Quo [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Originally released in 1968. Let's see if I get this right, 'Picturesque Matchstickable' is a CD reissue import of the first Status Quo lp, of it's U.S. version of the record. Five tracks here, I remember from a compilation I purchased years back are their should-have-been a major worldwide hit "Ice In The Sun", "Gentleman Joe's Sidewalk Cafe", the recognizable "Technicolor Dreams", "Spicks And Specks" and their sole U.S. hit - "Pictures Of Matchstick Men". Long live British psychedelia! An absolute must-have.
