I saw Pie 'n Burger last week at the Mendocino Film Festival as part of a series of short films. This one was a charmer. Holly (Ashley Johnson), a waitress in a diner, meets up with a stranger who somehow opens up her dreary life--a life of caring for a dying father with Alzheimer's disease, putting up with a feckless boyfriend, and doing her job waiting tables. Who IS this stranger? It's fun finding out (or do we?). The movie's ending is just a little bit magical.
