2.0 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment
I could not believe how weak the art was in this book. I just kept turning the page and being re-disappointed. Peppered with a few good pieces, the majority was not worthy of a hardcover printed book. On some pages, the curator should be downright embarrassed to have included them. Hit up the black book section of graffiti dot org and don't waste your money here.

PIECEBOOK: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers has successfully compiled a who's who of writer's writers in a format that looks so legit, you'd swear you could feel the grooves in the pages left by pencils and pens... As authentic and realistic as possible, there are even a few blank sheets to get up yourself! I even tried to peel the sticker off the inside cover! Villorente & Jenkins have compiled every toy's fantasy blackbook!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous graffiti picture book!, April 5, 2009
This review is from: Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers (Hardcover)
Having always had a fascination for the art of graffiti, I wanted to find a book containing colored pictures. I ordered this book after reading the great reviews, and I was totally delighted when it arrived. This book is better than pictures of graffiti. It is like the artists actually created their designs on the pages of the book! The cover is terrific, too, and there are blank pages scattered throughout...just in case you are inspired to create some art yourself.

The overall cover look of the book already deserves 5 stars. Great hardcover looks exactly like a blackbook. The graffiti inside is amazing pieces from all the legends, and blank pages or you to be creative on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dazzling drawings by legendary artists, December 31, 2009
This review is from: Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers (Hardcover)
"Piecebook: The Secret Drawings Of Graffiti Writers" has successfully put together a who's who of writers, and gives you an inside look at the world of graffiti through the eyes of NYC street artists. This imitation, old school blackbook is a compilation of incredibly authentic and realistic drawings from the 1970's to 2000, presented as they were originally created: you'd swear you could feel the groves in the paper left by the pens and pencils used to draw them. There are even blank pages in case you get inspired to include your own artwork with that of the great masters. We highly recommend this book to any artist or enthusiast who likes "masterpieces". This book is an outstanding piece of history, and if you are a student of this art form, you will learn invaluable lessons from this book and it's follow-up "Piecebook Reloaded". The follow-up book is organized much better, but that's a small issue, compared to the contents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passing around the "Piecebook", October 24, 2008
This review is from: Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers (Hardcover)
I received this book for my birthday recently and I could not be more stoked about what's inside. First of all the intro is written very well by giving the reader just a brief history about graffiti writers from back in the day and how a book like this was cherished among the boroughs.

I have some of my own "piecebooks", if you will, and leafing thru this colorful exploration brought back the nostalgia of hangin' out with friends, listening to some good music, and passing around each others' piecebook to get down!!!

I am truly amazed by the quality of this book and how "realistic" the sketches appear as different mediums were used: ballpoint pen, Design markers, Sharpies®, graphite, etc...

The publishing company did a phenomenal job "piecing" this together!!

If you love "pieces" and have a passion for graffiti, then this book should be in your collection.

Much Respect!
