5.0 out of 5 stars Pieced Curves really is so simple
I found Dale Flemings book well thought out and visually engaging. The projects demonstrate the inovative techniques well. For the more adventuresome she does a great job of sharing her methods of coming up with original designs. Using her techniques you can piece anything you can think up. She has a great color sense. I enjoyed the wide variety quilts shown also. Its a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Circle on a square
PIECED CURVES spends the first twenty four pages explaining things like the essentials such as materials and equipment; color and design principles, where to get inspiration and things about fabric such as to wash or not to wash, building a fabric pantry (I call it a stash) and creating a color palette. That is fully a quarter of the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Circle on a square, January 29, 2007
This review is from: Pieced Curves So Simple: The 6-Minute Circle and Other Time-Saving Delights (Paperback)

The technique, which was what I wanted to learn, was explained in four pages. It wasn't the simple thing I thought it would be. It was involved because it takes eleven steps to create a circle on a square. When I make such a square, I cut out a circle, iron under a seam allowance and blind stitch it to the square. Done. This technique involves glue, sewing between the square and the circle on the cut seam allowance and removing the freezer paper pattern. Too much for me.

Of the quilts shown in the book. I might try my hand at four or five of them. The rest were way too involved for my tastes. They were more like fiber art than quilts, something very beautiful but nothing I would want to do. This is a good book for anyone who is involved in fiber arts or needs a good review of color and design principles.

I've been sewing for many decades, including professionally, and this is one of the handiest techniques I've encountered in years. The book is clearly written and illustrated, and provides pathways for the learner to really use the techniques in their own way.

Although I've been sewing for 30+ years, I am not a quilter. I thought quilts with curves would be more forgiving than matching up all those straight lines of traditional quilts. The instructions are well done and good use of pictures. I also enjoyed the explanation of color and use of different fabric patterns/solids to create interest. BUT, I had a hard time with the circle sewing and ended up using some of my own techniques that also look very good. I definetly got my money's worth from this book and would recommend it to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't believe how easy circles can be!, October 31, 2007

This is a beautiful and useful book by Dale Flemming. After I bought the book, I got to take a class with her and she is amazing. Every student in the class was able to sew any size circle into the middle of a piece of fabric. The book shows you how. The chapter on color is worth the price of the book alone. The techniqes can be used for other work like landscapes. You really don't use pins! You use a simple gluestick instead.

I found Dale Fleming's book, Pieced Curves So Simple, to be a wonderful book that should appeal to both beginners and to the more advanced quilters. It had a good review of some basic principles, was very colorful, and gave some new methods for making pieced curves. I am using it as an "idea book", as it has sparked my imagination with it's innovative use of color and shapes. I am definitely glad I purchased it.

This is a good book not only for the beginners but also for advanced quilters. It will give you a few original quilting ideas with original designs. I found the chapter or color/light theory very informative and useful. On the negative site I found the book rather expensive which prvents me from giving it five stars. Amazon discount is certainly very helpful...

This book is great! I saw Dale Fleming demonstrate her technique on a quilting show & I had to have her book. It's so easy! The first quilt I ever made was a photo quilt for my parents 50th anniversary. I was scared to start, but, this book made it so easy! The pictures of our family history look like they have been beautifully framed, thanks to the "six minute circle". Even if you just learn the "six minute circle" this book is well worth the money!

This review is from: Pieced Curves So Simple: The 6-Minute Circle and Other Time-Saving Delights (Paperback)
Okay circles and other shapes like this are always a pain. This book shows you how to sew circles and other curved shapes easily without messing it up. I loved the instructions, they were easy to follow and fully documented with pictures. If you quilt you definitely need this book, you will love it. The illustrations are crisp and precise and the ideas you will come away with will even surprise yourself. It is a can do book, you will be able to do curves, circles and more once you get this book.
