About the Author

Mickey Depre was introduced to the world of Fiber Arts by her own personal "grand masters" at the age of four. Grandmothers, great aunts, aunts and her mother filled her days with cloth, needles, yarn and such.

Textiles have always fascinated her from vintage to current and her taste has always been ALL! sewing in general - mending to garment making were never a chore.

In 1997 she found quilting on her own. She is the first quiltmaker in her family, but vows not to be the only one.

Chicago has been her lifelong home. Married to her high school sweetheart Paul, they are the proud parents of a set of grown twins, Paul Jr. and Emily. And then there is Molly, their miniature dachshund who now fills the "nest" with joy.

Mickey has quietly instilled her love of sewing into all their lives: husband, son and daughter - all can sew (it's a bit rough for Molly to reach the pedal so she is working on ironing skills). She is now waiting for one of them to want to share her stash.

Mickey enjoys sharing her love of fiber through lectures and workshops. Her workshops mix technique instruction with individual creativity and always a giggle or two.

Please note that the templates are NOT needed to acheive the designs. The book Pieced Hexies gives ALL the directions to do so without the templates. The templates, a set of seven, are merely an additional tool if you wish to utilize them.

Also please note that there is an ENTIRE chapter on the basics of English Paper Piecing in the front of the book. And there are over 75 illustrations on putting together the different designs too.

WoW! Mickey has so many new ways to make a hexie quilt!!! This is not your grandma's quilt book. She heads in a direction with hexies that I never thought of. Not only does this book give you great new ideas and techniques, it stimulates the brain to try new things. Can't wait to see what Ms. Depre comes up with next!!!

I was excited about this book until I got it and found out that it showed you how to custom make the fabric for your hexagons and not how to make a quilt of hexagons. If you want to learn how to piece a design for a single hexagon, this is for you. If you want a book to further your understanding of English Paper Piecing, find something else.
Good instruction, but not what I was looking for. And the reason you can't look inside is because it's a book of patterns, something that was not explained well enough in the description.

The only way to improve on this book is to take a class with Mickey. VERY detailed instructions, essentially idiot-proof. And the photos!! You could learn the technique just from the photos so you don't have to read or understand English to learn. Mickey has hit another homerun!

the positive aspect of this book is that it shows several designs with variations in colours and fabrics for each of them to show different effects. Step to step instructions are clear and suitable for a beginner in the technique.
Perhaps I expected something more sophisticated.

Great detailed directions for making pieced hexies with lots of ideas to get you started on a project. The patterns are there to inspire so be ready to get creative and come up with your own ways to use the patterns. I found ideas on Mickey Depre's website also, after recieving the book. Lots of fun and very addictive!
