This is Ledisi's fifth CD release titled 'Pieces Of Me' with previously well acclaimed CDs under her belt as well as twice being nominated for Grammy Awards. In this new CD release (12 tracks), she does not disappoint : delivering great R 'n B/Soul with a message of hope/encouragement & relationship/love issues. Stand-outs include "Pieces Of Me" (great vocals & wonderful melody. This is the title track for this CD), "Bravo" (beautiful melody, harmonies & vocals) & "Bgty" (wonderful high pitched vocals, harmonies & incredible melody. This is my favourite track from this CD & hence the title of my review). Okay tracks are "Coffee" ('playful/naughty' track) & "Raise Up" ('some rapping' vocals). Great tracks include "So Onto You", "Stay Together" (great duet), "Hate Me", "Shut Up", "Shine" (up-tempo track with great vocals & melody), "I Miss You Now" (a slow track, great harmonies) & "I Gotta Get To You". On overall, this is a great CD release by Ledisi, a highly recommended CD listening.

Off the bat, I confess: I'm in love with this song and cannot give it up. It addicts the ear through its honesty and vulnerability, its strength and sweetness.

Despite all the particulars that cause each woman to be different from every other woman--her favorite perfume, her perfect idea of an awesome date, her passion in life--there are some things that bind women together and make them all the same: complexity and a need to learn to embrace the women they are--flaws and all. This song is the perfect embodiment of this frame of mind. It's an anthem for today's woman. It's tender and defiant, playful and dead-serious.

And on a purely musical level, the groove is hellified and funkdafied.

A must-have.

This album is the BOMB!!! I crave and feed off real music. I mean real music that penetrates to my heart, mind & soul. Yeah its that serious to me. I dont like a song because everyone else is excited about a song. Yes which is the case with so many non-singing artist who are becoming popular today for no reason. Im not going to say any names just check my review title.LOL........
Im the type of person who wants to know everything about a song. I want to know who wrote the song. I want to know who is on the drums? I want to know who is singing background. I want to know everything. I did just that with this album. LEDISI gives you a taste of so many different genres on this album. I LOVE IT!! I LOVE IT!! My personal favorites are:

The last ten years has been a mixed bag for singer Ledisi. After the dissolution of her short-lived band Anibade, she embarked on a solo career as an independent artist. She released her debut album "Soulsinger" in 2000, followed by the sophomore album "Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue" a couple of years later. She laid low for a few years on hiatus- partially due to her being unsure about wanting to continue in the music industry. She was constantly inundated with the message that looks took precedence over talent and wondered if the music industry really needed people like her. She released her third album- and first for major label Verve Forecast Records- in 2007, the aptly titled "Lost & Found". The album received critical acclaim and garnered her two Grammy nominations- one of which was for Best New Artist. She decided to shake things up on her follow-up album "Turn Me Loose", a recording that was deep rooted in southern soul and funk rock, and was widely seen as her best effort to date.

In 2011, she released her newest record "Pieces Of Me", an album that shows her keeping up with the times. She opens the album with the title track "Pieces Of Me", which was produced by Chuck Harmony (best known for producing Chrisette Michelle's "Epiphany" as well as Keri Hilson's "Pretty Girl Rock"). She reunites with longtime producer Rex Rideout on the songs "So Into You", "Hate Me", "Raise Up" and "Stay Together"- in which she duets with fellow singer Jaheim. Speaking of Jaheim, his mentor Kay Gee of Naughty By Nature produces the sensual uptempo track "Coffee". She enlists the production talents of Mike City- who's best known for his work with her labelmate Sunshine Anderson- on the song "Shut Up", where she responds to her critics. She sings about reconciliation on the John Legend penned "I Miss You Now", while offering words of positivity on the Salaam Remi produced "BGTY". She closes the album with the Orthodox & Ransum produced ballad "I Gotta Get To You". Ledisi's "Pieces Of Me" is a mostly listenable recording, but this album suffers a little from her making blatant attempts at radio-friendly songs. She seems to be out of her element and is better when she's making adult contemporary music, as evidenced by her earlier recordings. Despite that shortcoming, "Pieces Of Me" is worth a listen.

If you havent heard or seen Ledisi the last few years you must be living under a rock. Whether she is doing tributes, award shows or on tour this lady can bring a house down!

No matter what genre (Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Rock & R&B) she tackles you can tell she does so with care and respect. Which brings us to this new release for Summer 2011. "Pieces of Me"!

The title track alone should be a smash hit. Shame on urban radio for not supporting this song more (Currently top 30). The passionate delivery she gives to other stand outs like the heartfelt John Legend penned "I miss you now" and "BGTY (Be Good To Yourself)" and "Hate Me" are worth the price of the album alone. Classic r&b at its finest.

Ledisi does not mind getting funky or going up-tempo at all. The cut "Shut Up" displays the powerhouse singer at her most confident self as does the playful "Coffee"

"Pieces of Me" is up to par along with Ledisi's previous two releases and ensures that the talented singer will be around for awhile. Radio should take notice so the people can give her the respect she deserves. Soul music lives on!

Ledisi has yet to disappointment me, and this CD is her BEST work to date. Addicted to "Pieces of Me," I found myself playing it for days. Now I find myself addicted to many tracks wherein I bought an additional copy for my car. If you are seeking "Girl Power" or you need to be reminded of a woman's worth, Ledisi has proven herself as being the Princess of Lyrics when it comes to feeding your soul with such knowledge. So PLEASE support this artist by dismissing the bootleggers and individuals distributing her music for free, because she is worth the money plus more.

I love Ledisi and everyone has been saying that this is a "must have" CD. I purchased it along with Avery Sunshine's CD. Im not taking anything away from Ledisi, but Avery Sunshine's CD is the bomb!! I gave Ledisi 4 stars and it may deserve 5, however, after listening to both CDs Avery's CD is just better. Sorry, Im just sayin...
