4.0 out of 5 stars A view into the foster childhoood, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Pieces of the Pearl (Perfect Paperback)
Teresa's book provides insight into the mind of a child who grows up in our Foster Care system. As Teresa is taken from family to family, separated from siblings, reunited and separated again, your heart breaks for the little girl who tries to find normalcy within a world where each day may bring another unwanted change. With all of its highs and lows, the most pointed and permanent lesson is to refrain judging of others--you have no idea what they are going through (or have survived!).

5.0 out of 5 stars A thought provoking & heart tugging read, August 20, 2011
This review is from: Pieces of the Pearl (Perfect Paperback)
This book reaches in and "grabs hold" of your heart. It gives a real picture of how children feel when they are removed from their homes, even when they are placed in a safer environment. I've recommended it to foster parents to hopefully give them an insight on what is going on in the minds of children and teenagers who end up needing to be in foster care. I couldn't put this book down when I started reading it. I felt like I could see what Teresa was describing as she was remembering her life and how it affected her future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Moving Narrative, February 7, 2011
This review is from: Pieces of the Pearl (Perfect Paperback)
Pieces of the Pearl is a heart-wrenching story of the pain and loss that the author endured as a child and youth. At times as I read, I wondered how much more a person could take. The imagery and writing style helped me feel like I was there experiencing every moment. Through it all, Teresa emerges with hope and strength that will inspire any reader, as it did me. The book reinforces the truth that our past does not have to determine our future. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tough but totally captivating read!, February 2, 2010
Think "Angela's Ashes" for those in the American South. A tough and at times heartbreaking read (had to put the book down at times) but totally captivating. Teresa's narrative of her poverty stricken childhood and then tough yet at times better life in the foster home system is just a must read. I met Teresa Ann Winton at her book signing and was very impressed with her engaging personality and wasn't quite sure what to expect from the book. I'm even more impressed by Teresa now and especially her strength and of course her familiy and friends support for her. Pieces of the Pearl did not read like it was by a first time author if you know what I mean, too may first timers try to throw in a bunch of bells anf whistles, I look forward to Teresa's next book if she has it in her.
