An Innovative Approach to the Treatment of Eating Disorders,
By
This review is from: Pieces of a Puzzle: The Link Between Eating Disorders and ADD (Paperback)
Pieces of A Puzzle: The Link Between Eating Disorders and ADD has made a significant difference in my life. Dr. Dukarm is able to translate her knowledge and recommendations into a context that is easy to understand and apply. The content of this book is extremely beneficial, especially for those struggling with Bulimia or Binge Eating Disorder. After reading this book I contacted Dr. Dukarm, she was able to provide a consult. Her recommendations change my life for the better.

Phenomenal book,
This review is from: Pieces of a Puzzle: The Link Between Eating Disorders and ADD (Paperback)
As cliche as this will sound, this book changed my life for the better. After suffering from an eating disorder for over six years and finding no way to cope or recover I began to research treatment options on my own. Having always had the feeling that I had ADD, I had previously been tested but not allowed medication for fear from my doctors that I might use medications to lose more weight.
With the knowledge I gained from this book (and recommending it to my psychiatrist), we were able to come up with a proper recovery plan which has led to my life now, free of an eating disorder. Even if you don't necessarily have an eating disorder of ADD, this book is incredibly interesting and provides much insight into the link between eating disorders and ADD.

A wonderful, easy reading book that gives you all the important information you need if dealing with a child with ADD, an eating disorder, or both. The question and answer layout makes it easy to find information quickly. I highly recommend it. I have a child with ADD (inattentive type) and she dabbles with eating issues. Thanks for this fabulous book.

Groundbreaking information! The tip of the iceberg,

This is groundbreaking material and needs more recognition from the medical community. There is a definite link between ADD/ADHD and Eating Disorders, primarily as a form of self-medication (coping strategy) among women.
It is counterintuitive, but treating a woman who suffers from an ED (especially an ED that is not body-based, but control-based) with the correct ADD meds, such as stimulants, will calm the ED patient (woman) down enough to relax the rigidity, obsession, and/or impulsivity in relation to food. I can only hope to see further research in this area.

As a nurse I have been trying to work with my now 16 yr. old daughter for 6 years with her eating disorder, adhd innattentive type, and learnig disabilities. This book has been extremely helpful to assist teachers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and therapists who work with my daughter.
After reading this book I thought, 'This is my child!'. It has been the most well written and only resource I have found that drew these issues together in a compact, concise, and professional manner.I have given this book to 3 different people so that they can understand what I know to be true written by a professional. I am now ordering more to provide this insightful book to other professionals. Many people don't understand the struggle of combination disorders and often treat one neglecting the others. I highly reccomend this to teens ,parents, teachers and paraprofessionals.

So nice to know there is a link between obesity and ADD-I,

When my son was diagnosed with ADD-I and I started researching it the thought occurred to me, "Is there a link between obesity and ADD?" So I checked it out. I didn't find this book right away, but when I did I was really excited. Even though this book was put together for someone with ADD (I figured out that was also me after my research), I still have had a difficult time getting into it. But I easily found the information that I was looking for. I have every intention of picking it back up and reading it some more and I really want to remember to mention it to my sons doctor.
