5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring music from a beautiful voice!!, June 13, 2008

So unlike the other reviewer, I found Jenni's music to be very moving and beautiful. I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon her at one of my favorite local spots that I typically run from when there are bands. Instead, as I was grabbing my first drink of the night I heard this sweet voice that coaxed me to the 'stage' side of the house and I was stuck! I could only pry myself away for a refill and even that was hard. I bought 2 of her CDs on the spot (Pieces and No Second Guesses) and had the pleasure of speaking with Jenni after her performance. She's bright, down to earth and is extremely talented at piano, guitar and vocals. Her voice is extremely sexy with a seductively breathy and crisp style. I've already listened to these albums twice through each and I've owned them for less than 24 hours! Do yourselves a favor and give Jenni a listen.

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Forget, June 9, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pieces (Audio CD)
Jenni Alpert has a breathy voice that somewhat resembles Suzanne Vega. "I hope that God is watching. I hope that He can see what we have done," she sings on the opener "Baltimore" that has a haunting quality. Unfortunately, as a singer, Alpert slides off and around notes rather than actually hitting them. Her band does a great job backing her. "Fallin" is a bluesy weeper that brings to mind Louise Taylor's excellent CD Written in Red. However, as a vocalist, Alpert's voice wisps around her notes & does not resonate like Taylor's affecting singing. As a songwriter, Alpert's songs often create a mood as in "Below Sea"; however, they also fail to stick in your head after you listen to them. "Black Crow" is a dreamy songscape with strings that only needs a more memorable melody to connect. Alpert has a great band. But the vocals and the material make this set easy to forget. Taxi!
