5.0 out of 5 stars Handy tool to have, January 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Piecing Tips & Tricks Tool: Piece Like the Experts: Easy-To-Use Color-Coded Sections, Everything You Need to Know (Spiral-bound)
I purchased this handy tool after making my first quilt with my cousin (Eleanor Burns Log Cabin). I purchased this book because of the section on choosing fabric. My cousin was so good about choosing color values and what would pop. I wanted to learn about this. There are five contributors to this book: Nacy Johnson-Srebro, Ruth McDowell, Alex Anderson, Sharyn Craig and Carol Doak. Alex Anderson explains how different types of fabrics such as polka-dot, striped, novelty and sparkle can benefit a quilt. She also gives three rules for choosing fabric based on color value, character of the print and color families. She then gives several samples of fabric groups. This is all in color so it is invaluable. Ruth McDowell covers how to do curved seams and Carol Doak shows detailed instructions on how to do paper piecing. Sharyn Craig gives directions for setting triangles, sashing and diagonal patterns along with charts for determining the correct dimensions. NJS covers equipment, cutting tips and a section on mahine piecing which includes notions, pressing hints, set-in seams and mitered corners. All in all this is a handy reference to have and the spiral binding makes it more useful.
