Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

If you think a flaky pastry is too much bother or an elegant tart too difficult to make at home, this book will change your mind! From luscious desserts like Crumb-Topped Apple Raspberry Pie and Black Bottom-Java Cream Tart to satisfying main courses such as Tourtière or delicate Salmon en Croûte, here are specialties that anyone can prepare with ease.

Pies & Pastries--along with its companion volumes in the Cooking at a Glance series--is the next best thing to having a master baker stand beside you in your kitchen. All the important techniques for making doughs, fillings, and toppings are described in detailed, clear language. Vivid full-color photo sequences show every stage of preparation, from the start to the beautiful finished dish.

You'll find Pies & Pastries a delight to use and an invaluable reference. It will quickly prove an indispensable addition to any cook's library--like the other books in the Cooking at a Glance series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great how-to manual and recipes, January 23, 2003
This review is from: Pies & Pastries (Hardcover)
This is a great cookbook on pies and pastries. The instructions and pictures are very easy to follow, and the recipes include some mouth-watering combinations (like Apple Butter/Pumpkin Pie, Crumb-topped Apple Raspberry Pie) and some traditional favorites with a twist (Sugar-crusted Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie). I've baked several of the recipes and found them terrific. I recommend it for pie novices, as well as accomplished pie-bakers looking to snazz up the taste and/or look of their pies.
