Editorial Reviews

Review

"A romantic suspense, action-packed mystery, or a sizzling romance, the choice is yours because PIG IN THE PARK is all three, and more. . . The characters are many, varied, and unusual. The plot has as many twists as a kitten-snarled ball of yarn, but Ms. Jones manages to smooth out every kink, unsnarl the impossible, and deliver a book that is absolutely engrossing, engaging, and balm for your funny bone." Under The Covers Reviews, August 1998, http://www.silcom.com/~manatee/jones_pig.html "A Pig in the Park is one of those books that defies categorization. It's romantic, mysterious, adventurous, suspenseful. And it has a great title. Ms. Jones has a way with a plot. A very winding, twisting, intriguing way. She also has a way with characters, and a way with dialogue. All in all, New Concepts has unearthed yet another unique and immensely talented author who has written a unique and imminently satisfying book. Oh and by the way, it's funny too. Really funny, not just slapstick funny. And books that are really funny are not that easy to find." -- Four & 1/2 stars from Affair de Coeur, October 1998

"New Concepts Publishing launches a remarkable new talent, as Pauline Baird Jones and her hilarious novel PIG IN A PARK make their debut. Written in first person, this adventurous romp is a 14 karat gem, and I for one would love to see more from this vastly amusing author." -- Four & 1/2 Stars from Romantic Times, November 1998

"PIG IN A PARK is definitely not a pig in a poke, even though you'll be tempted to poke the ribs of the person sitting next to you so that you can re-read the funny portions of this deftly-crafted romantic suspense out loud. Isabel Stanley's dysfunctional family is Everywoman's family. The suspense kept me glued to my seat, reading through "Stan's" eyes -- "Orphan Annie eyes." PIG IN A PARK is a first novel by a very talented author, Pauline Baird Jones. More, please." -- Denise Dietz, author of BEAT UP A COOKIE and FOOTPRINTS IN THE BUTTER. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Lovely to See You (Out There Somewhere) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pig in a Park (Paperback)
Isabel Stanley has a twin she thinks is better looking and more outgoing than her. Her mother is always nagging her to get married. Her life is low-key, boring, and she plays keyboards in a band with some young boys and goes to church choir like a good little Baptist girl should.

All this changes when she drives home from choir practice one night, and a tall, handsome stranger jumps into her car while being shot at. Her world is about to turn upside down and change for the better, and she is about to find out that she's highly attractive to more than one member of the opposite gender.

This book is fun, with a compelling mystery and just the right kind of romance to keep you glued to the pages. Also, Jones has a real talent for composing sharp, sparkling wit in her characters' dialog and for keeping you guessing right up to the end. Best of all, her heroine, Stan, is a humorously self-deprecating woman most of us other women can relate to, and that's what makes this story so much of a treat. Sexy without ever resorting to trashiness, giving equal time to a truly engrossing whodunnit, it's almost nostalgic. Romantic mysteries of this quality are very hard to find, and I'm looking forward to reading more books by this intelligent, witty author.
