5.0 out of 5 stars What Can I Say?
Pigeon John is the most original, energetic artist I've seen or heard in a while. His live show is amazing and hysterical, and his albums are filled with the same love. I, and everyone i know who has heard this album, can't get enough of it. I love that he invites us into his insecurities, while doing it with SICK beats, and amazingly clever rhymes. This album is a must...

3.0 out of 5 stars Rhymes clever, beats ok
I really love Pigeon John after hearing him featured on several other cds (DJ Maj's "Fullplates Mixtape", .rodlaver's "Trying Not to Try" etc.) and I love his unique almost whiny voice rap. But unfortunately I didn't care for the beats so much on this album, not very original, almost mainstream-sounding. Also too many hooks, and too much sing-song...

5.0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking, September 10, 2003

PJ makes even his best fans go "huh?" on this one.
Whether you loved Clueless or not, you'll love Dating Your Sister. On first listen, 1/2 of the songs I loved, then on a few other listens, I am in love with almost every song.
Tight beats, lyrics that range from funny to touching, to just straight-up real.
Look out esp for tracks like Originalz, emily and the art of falling off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pigeon John is Dating Your Sister, January 11, 2005

While this is officialy Pigeon John's second release, it's really his debut ALBUM. PIGEON JOHN IS CLUELESS is a collection of different tracks that PJ had recorded over the years. So PJIDYS is the first collection of songs that he put together with the intention of releasing together.

That effort is very apparent and some of that lies in the fact that he had a superior supporting cast this time around. Fellow Project Blowed members Mikah 9 and Abstract Rude lend their talents to the project and DJ Rhettmatic of Visionaries and Beat Junkies fames produces some of the tracks.

However, the reason this CD is such a success is mostly due to the artist himself. In many ways, Pigeon John remains the irreverant kid that he's always been. In other ways he's matured almost to a frightening level (I am dying to know what inspired the "Emily" track). Regardless though, Pigeon John remains that great entertainer that he's always been.

I can't give it 5 stars because it still doesn't meet the level of dopeness that Pigeon and bTwice reached on THE RISE AND FALL OF BRAINWASH PROJECTS (guys, put me out of my misery and record a follow-up, please?) but as a solo artist is showing that he's a force with which to be reckoned.

5.0 out of 5 stars how does he do it?!, January 11, 2005
This review is from: Pigeon John Is Dating Your Sister (Audio CD)
Thoughtful lyrics... yes. Clever and amusing lyrics... yes. Breakthrough beats... yes. One of the best hip hop CDs on the market... YES! PJ does it again- he combines his unique voice and style with amazing beats coupled with lyrics that make you laugh and cry. You won't get sampled crap or 6 different songs about partying and being rich when you listen to PJ. You'll get songs you can actually relate to. Trust me, you'll listen to this one over and over!

4.0 out of 5 stars I'll Listen to Your Album, but You Can't Date My Sister, April 10, 2004
This review is from: Pigeon John Is Dating Your Sister (Audio CD)
Pigeon John finally graces us with his sophomore effort, Pigeon John Is Dating Your Sister. For those of you who can't get enough of PJ, this second album scratches your itch. More of what we've come to know and love from The Cameo King. As a true Christian hip-hop head from the beginning (DOC, Transformation Crusade, A1-Swift, and 12th Tribe stand up!), I can tell you that this album is 11.99 well spent. Like another person who reviewed this album here, I too am disappointed at PJ's continued use of the N-word (niggie).

And do my ears deceive me, or did PJ actually say the h-word in 2 of his songs, both in which the word was scratched out? (See "What is Love?" and "Alone") Or was it just a promotion ploy? (Remember, Pigeon John produced pretty much the whole album)

On a much brighter note, another reason I liked this CD is because PJ shares concerning being black and trying to make it through a seemingly all-white world. It IS possible to be black and be considered too black by whites and not black enough by blacks at the same time. It's a struggle I personally relate to, and it was good to hear it in PJ's music. (For example, see "Identity Crisis")

Go get this CD, for real. And by the way, if you don't have it, get the first one, Pigeon John is Clueless, and listen to it FIRST. You'll understand why . . .

It is amazing how good this album is. PJ is ready to explode in the big-time music scene. His beats are original (which is what hip-hop is all about, anybody that says otherwise knows nothing) and his lyrics are incredibly thought-provoking. On top of that, HE'S HILARIOUS!!! This album is one of the 10 best hip-hop albums of 2003, count on it. Pigeon John is a future force in music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very solid release, July 30, 2005
This review is from: Pigeon John Is Dating Your Sister (Audio CD)
When I first started diving into underground Hip Hop like some ancient historian, I developed a deep appreciation for conscious and conceptual Hip Hop in its realm. Sure, I loved humourous Hip Hop from time to time, but seeing how much of a joke Mainstream Hip Hop became, I wanted more thought-provoking lyricism. I enjoyed rap groups such as The Analog Brothers, The Pharcyde, Organized Konfusion, Eric B & Rakim, but they all delivered their own unique styles and had witty humour. I didn't want to hear any garbage that wasn't even funny in the least, but that was the first impression that I got from Pigeon John. I didn't understand what the big deal about him was at first. I thought he was rather overrated and people were exaggerating about how great he was, just like they do with Jay-Z. Anyway, I first heard him on KJ-52's collaboration track called "All Around the World" with John Reuben as the third man. It was too early for me to prejudge him the way I did, but I did anyway and didn't give him a chance. I made a mistake in this part of my exploration, until I bought the L.A. Symphony album entitled "The End is Now." When I heard Pigeon John on each of the tracks that he was featured on, the more his style grew on me and the more I began to admire his charisma. Soon, I heard a few more tracks off his solo "Pigeon John sings the Blues" and then off this very record itself, and couldn't stop rhyming along with "Deception." I quickly bought this album, and fortunately for me, it was the only copy in store. I came home and listened to it straight from "High School Reunion" to "Alone..." and was amazed at the diversity of this emcee. He touched on deep subjects, humourous subjects and experimented with some mellow singing, plus the guest appearances by Mikah 9, Murs and Abstract Rude were great enough. Anyway, the lyrics were real and PJ didn't resort to using profanity, which reminded me a lot of Eric B & Rakim's way of doing Hip Hop. Each track on this album is catchy and the beats have that automatic rhythm to keep your head nodding. Pigeon John's got it all, and if this wasn't enough, I just had to go out and buy "Composition #1" by L.A. Symphony to further my interest in PJ's earlier works. Man, he's definitely hype. Plus, he's got classics such as "Clueless" and the "Brainwash Projects" with btwice. I have to say that "Pigeon John is dating your Sister" is one of the better albums that I purchased for my Hip Hop collection in the past six years. My favourite cuts are "High school Reunion," "Deception," "Emily," "Life Goes On," "2 Step," "Originalz," "What is Love" and "Alone..." This is a must-get for underground heads.

4.0 out of 5 stars bearing his soul, October 22, 2003
This review is from: Pigeon John Is Dating Your Sister (Audio CD)
i pickup pj's new album, "pj is dating your sister" after seeing him live at souix fall this labor day. after listening to the album 100+ times, i think i have a grasp on it. songs like orange county and sam the goat give a testimony and confession at the same time. what is love and all alone speak of his weaknesses. this album does an excellent job in the release of everything deemed important and satisfying in this fleeting world. listen with your ears then listen with your heart. tasty, tasty tracks with lyrics that have boggled my brain. the beats are positive and uplifting along with his message.
