3.0 out of 5 stars FIne fare for little tikes
Piglet is probably one of the most timid characters ever. That doesn't stop Disney from telling a pretty big tale for tikes that includes Piglet saving the day on a couple of more than memorable occasions. This episodic feature film looks like it might have been produced originally for the direct-to-video market and then sidetracked to the theaters. Piglet's Big Movie is...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Sweet Movie, March 21, 2003
By

I took my 5 year old son and his friend to see this movie. My son is a HUGE Piglet fan and sleeps with him every night. His friend could care less about Piglet, but what the heck it's an opportunity to eat popcorn. I am happy to report both children really enjoyed the movie, as did all of the children in the theater from what I could tell. The whole gang goes looking for Piglet after he wonders off during a honey hunting escapade. At his home they find a book of wonderful pictures of their time together. They believe if they follow the pictures it will lead them to Piglet. Each picture leads to a new story. And that's the best part, they are NEW stories. Not just Disney rehashing the old for the sake of making a buck. There is a great sequence in the end involving all the friends coloring pictures for Pigelt and I could just imagine little one's thinking they couldn't wait to get home and color. There's no foul languange, no potty jokes, no violence, just wonderful characters, sweet songs, and friendship. It was a great break from today's stressful world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for Families, November 17, 2003
This review is from: Piglet's Big Movie (DVD)
I have watched many versions of Winnie the Pooh, from the A.A. Milne originals to the more recent "New Adventures..." to the Book of Pooh. A Piglet Movie is much more A.A. Milne, which I personally find refreshing.

The storyline is very gentle, and the feelings evoked by the themes are very familiar to small children (being too small, not being noticed, being lost and frightened). Each short story within the film was carefully chosen and fit perfectly with the overall theme. The search for Piglet and his magical scrapbook tie them all together seamlessly. The folksy Carly Simon music may not be some people's first choice, but it just works somehow in this movie. Just right.

This movie has just the right amount of humor and excitement to hold a young child's interest without overkill. There were a couple of initial moments of nervousness for our 2 and 4 year old, when the bees were chasing Pooh and his friends, and again when Kanga gives Piglet a bath and Piglet is clearly terrified. My children have since relaxed, as they now understand these scenes a little better, but it may help to explain what's happening to little ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for any Pooh or Piglet fan.., August 2, 2003

In this latest tale from the 100 Acre Wood, Piglet becomes lost and the gang sets off to find him, using Piglet's scrapbook of memories to find him. In a series of short films, intertwined with the 'lost in the woods' story, the usual crew reminisces about their undying friendship and the adventures they have shared together.

This film enforces the idea that you do not have to be big to make a difference (perfect for toddlers), and that friendship is everlasting (perfect for adults as well). My two-year old enjoyed it immensely and I did not find it a trial to sit through either. Carly Simon's wonderful vocals are a plus. Great for any child's DVD collection or any fan of Pooh.

4.0 out of 5 stars Piglet is a Big Hit, April 25, 2003

This is fun entertainment for both young and old alike. It revisits some of Milne's original stories (even if perfectionists will note that Eyore appears in the story before he's introduced in the book). The music was absolutely wonderful, moving the story very well--can't wait to get the soundtrack. The animation is great and the way each individual story is interwoven with the main story is very skillful. Children will enjoy this film, but it will have a laugh for the "older kids" (adults)too. It seemed to be a bit long for younger children (3-year olds), but held well for the others. The younger ones got wiggly! Can't wait for the video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and funny film, March 30, 2003

We took our two and a half year old daughter to this movie, her first ever! She sat through it no problem, as did all the other kids I could see. It was sweet, engaging and showed little ones that they can do big things. The themes of the importance of friendship and not taking someone for granted were gently woven throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great movie for the LITTLE ones, December 1, 2004
By

This review is from: Piglet's Big Movie (DVD)
I say LITTLE ones, because this movie has such a great message for the little kids. It shows kids how important they are despite their size. Piglet is small, but he is BIG in all that he does. He does so much service for others, but they fail to notice how pivotal he is in all of their adventures until they cannot find him. Then they remember how he may be small, but in "the biggest, most helpfulest way of all!"

Highly recommended! My kids ages 2-12 all sit together and watch this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2 Year Old Daughter Loves It, September 8, 2005
This review is from: Piglet's Big Movie (DVD)
You can't go wrong with Piglet's Big Movie for a young child. They will watch it over and over again. Great animation and songs. The storyline is much more applicable to a young child unlike the fire and death scenes in movies like Bambi.

Piglet's picture shows the value of friendship and show us how Piglet's attitude to thinking first in his friends and then on himself makes a real difference not always noted by them.

My 23 month old loves to watch this movie and will sit still through most of the story. We enjoy the songs and she will ask to see this many times. We also love to sit and color pages for our own "scrappity book". My husband and I both love to watch this movie so this is definitely a great family movie.
