The illustrators choice.,
My search for the perfect fine-point pen ended the day I ran across one of these fine pens. I had previously used the Pilot razorpoint and even shelled out some money for an expensive Rapideograph pen with all of its cleaning, refilling and upkeep. This Pen may not have as fine a point as those expensive technical pens but they get the job done just as well, the ink is top notch, waterproof and a good dark black. The ink can sometimes smear when you're doing line work with a ruler if you're not careful, but this pen is still top line for illustrations.

I adore these pens, which I found ideal for doing linguistic fieldwork in the Chinese countryside, where the paper was rough and could clog ballpoints and Rapidographs, and where unexpected rain and unavoidable humidity (and the occasional fall into water) could affect non-indelible inks. Now that I'm not doing fieldwork so much, I still use them for taking notes. I love the feel of them in my hand, and the sensation that I am using a precision instrument.
I like the seller's price of $1.19 per pen, too. What I don't like is how Amazon tacks on $4.95 *per* *pen*! I would like to buy 10 or 12 of these pens, but not when the shipping brings them to more than $6 apiece. That's outrageous! $4.95 ought to cover shipping for the whole order, more or less. Amazon, you've just priced me out of your market, sorry to say.

I bought two, and both pens will only distribute ink consistently if I write slowly (which, for me, kind of defeats the purpose of purchasing a fine point pen as when writing slowly I have to be careful not to blot). I didn't expect the tips to be hardened steel, but one has already frayed from only light use. Apparently, they require a gentler hand than mine. Ever since Sanford ceased distributing the Uni-Ball Roller .3mm pens I have been searching for a suitable replacement. This pen is not it.

In my research for a good drawing pen I came across the Pigma Micron pens and they are my favorite. They deliver a nice consistent line and don't easily smudge. As an aspiring cartoonist I have found I get the best results using these particular pens.

Pigma Micron Pen,

Does a great job. Pen point is nice and sharp for a really fine line - and the ink doesn't spread when applied. Great for any archival project!

Works good. The ink is alittle runs very fast. The pen is very tiny. Nice packaged with bubble wrap. Loved the micron pen package. Took 11 days to come :).

Like a previous reviewer (Ells Lloyd) I am bothered by the fact that I must take care to write extra slowly, or else the line fades and disappears.
The reason I purchased two of these pens is that the recipient of my fax reports could not read the black ballpoint ink that I was using. He recommended Pigma Micron, and now all my faxes come through clearly. |
