This book is a joke!
on December 1, 2011
I agree with some of the other reviewers of this book. I read this book this past Summer and I couldn't believe my eyes! This guy is SO BIASED it ruins the whole book. I definitely laughed out loud a few times, especially how he makes fun of schools that claim a certain number of championships that they didn't truly earn or deserve. However, he is so biased towards Southern Cal that he doesn't truly respect or admire any other schools' accomplishments. He DID seem to respect Notre Dame, but outside of that he basically thinks they all stink.
I'm a Nebraska fan and I had to laugh how he wrote only about 10 pages on Nebraska, whereas he spent like 100 pages on SC. Historically, most people agree that the 1971 or 1995 Nebraska teams are the best college teams of all-time (Sporting News just did a "greatest" series that named '71 Nebraska as the best college team ever). In Travers' eyes, they are nothing compared to his beloved 1972 USC team. I have NEVER in all my 20-25 years of watching and reading everything about college football heard anyone say as much about '72 USC. That's fine, but he basically makes fun of all those teams unless they are SC. It gets old by the end of the book.
In conclusion, if you're a Southern Cal fan, you'll LOVE this book. If not, you'll probably get frustrated by it.
