When I read a review, I want to hear from someone who actually owns the product, not from someone upset by whatever supposed or maybe even realistic issue they have with another person's review. Here is a real review...

I purchased two of the king-sized comforters, one sage and one brown, during the Gold Box Deal of the Day a couple of days ago. After receiving them yesterday, my husband and I slept under the sage comforter last night. We were toasty warm and very comfortable.

The comforter is not too thick, just perfect for our not so cold nights in Central Texas. There are no feathers coming out of the down and the material is soft and inviting. The sage color was slightly different from the picture I saw, but quite beautiful and the brown looked the same as the photo.

I'm sure others may be more eloquent in their descriptions and details, but I just want to say: After all the negative reviews written by people who don't even own the product, I'm very happy with this purchase and I would buy it all over again!

I personally believe that if one doesn't own the product, one should not be writing a "REVIEW". Surely there is another medium to express "non-ownership" complaints...

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely good deal for the price, November 20, 2009

(REAL NAME)
I bought this item during the gold box deal when it was $40. It's very similar to the smaller Pike Street wraparound throws which occasionally go on sale for $10 each - except this is thicker and more fluffy and much larger. This comforter is thiner (and lighter) compared to the other heavy duty winter down comforters that I own. But I purchased it intending to use it as a wrap blanket to snuggle in while watching TV in the winter. So far, the verdict is that the comforter is very warm and lightweight. An initial perusal did not show any feathers falling out or hard feather points sticking uncomfortably out. There was no crinkling due to plastic covers inside the blanket, or any hard feathers. There is a slight chemical odor that I'm sure will dissipate over time. The item also arrived right on time.

To touch on some points that the one star reviewers and gold box deal complainers were unhappy with: yes indeed, the blanket does not have baffle stitching. Each square of the blanket is open on the edges leading to the other squares except on the outer edges of the comforter. But, it is consistent across the material and not a manufacturing defect. For $40 a comforter, you can afford to buy another one when the down in this comforter starts to clump and shift to such a point that it's uncomfortable to use. I'm estimating greater than 5 years of good use of this item based on my other Pike Street throws as well as my other down comforters that I have been using and washing for 7 years. The tag on the comforter indicated that the outer shell is made in China and the comforter was actually filled and finished in CA with the stuffing being at least 75% white down. I've never used a comforter directly next to my skin for sleeping - I always use a sheet or duvet cover. Thus the concerns of low thread count fabric (280 TC?) being used for the outer shell also did not impact my enjoyment of this item.

Certainly it's not a luxury down comforter, overall a great inexpensive down comforter that I'd definitely buy more of if it goes on sale again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully warm and comfortably lightweight, November 29, 2009
By
I bought this as a gift for my Mom and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I was pleasently surprised when she called me two and a half days after I ordered it and told me that she got it. She lives in Arizona... such fast shipping! Warm and fluffy she said. We visited her during the recent Thankgiving weekend and she put it in the guest bedroom for us. I can now do a meaningful review of this blanket having slept with it for 4 nights. First off, I was very impressed with the warmth and comfort of this blanket, especially since it is so lightweight! The nights got so cold out on that desert at night, but this blanket kept us toasty-warm without weighting us down as some comforters do. I ordered it in the smoke blue, which looked very similar to the product color we got. I did notice that the size of the queen blanket we got was only slightly smaller than what I was used to in a queen, never the less it was plenty large enough. I only noticed after I looked it up that it is described as a full/queen so that is perhaps the reason. The day we left we washed and dried it and saw no signs of feather loss. It came out of the dryer just as fluffy as it was out of the box. I am giving this blanket a 5-star because of its quality and its value.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but ultimately disappointed, July 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Normally I don't review items, because if they work for me, then I'm happy. However, I felt it necessary to comment on this comforter.

When I first received it, I loved it. It was large, warm and very soft.

However, shortly, I began noticing tufts of down escaping it from between the stitching. Also, it is not batted very well and the feathers all start clumping at the edges of the blanket, away from the middle section. I know that down comforters generally do this over time, I've had them before, but they usually last a little longer than 5 months before they start clumping and the batting stitching starts to go.

So, it's very nice looking, and it's very soft. It is warm when the down is in the appropriate places, but it has not held up well in the past 6 months and I'm already looking for a replacement comforter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Loose Goose, November 18, 2009
Sorry Amazon, but this down is a downer...and anyone who purchases it must either vacuum every morning, (after the airborn feathers settle) or buy a down proof duvet cover to seal the deal. If Amazon was smart, they'd offer this item with a duvet cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the price I paid during Gold Box deal, it's 5 stars., November 21, 2009
By

I purchased one of these during the Golden Box deal. For the price that I paid, I can give it 5 stars. Were this a one hundred dollar comforter, I could NOT give it 5 stars. People have to realize they get what they pay for. This is a light, down comforter with a low thread count but it cost less than forty bucks when I purchased it. There's no excessive down fall-out as some have claimed in other negative reviews. There is an unsavory down odor when you first un-package and use this comforter, but it is NOTHING above or beyond what every other down comforter would smell like when you use it for the first time. Bottomline, if you can purchase this comforter for less than fifty dollars, it's worth it. Prices above fifty, in my opinion, would not be very competitive. But I purchased it when it was less than forty and for that I can sincerely give it 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well... I wouldn't buy it again, July 27, 2010
This comforter is very warm and the material is soft but the down gets all bunched up in one area and it takes a lot of work to try to redistribute it. The reason? The stitched squares are not stitched all the way around, which means there is no way to keep the down in place. It would be easier to redistribute if there were no squares at all but as it is, you have to work around the partial squares. This may be somewhat difficult to imagine if you are not looking at the comforter. All in all, it does get the job done and for the price I will give it 3 stars but I would not buy this again... even at the low price point.

1.0 out of 5 stars a lot of feathers, April 12, 2010

I have to say it is warm, but the biggest problem is that I noticed a lot of feathers every morning.

This is really terrible.

1.0 out of 5 stars TOO small, February 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have a queen size bed and this comforter barely covered the top. It may work for a full size bed but definitely not a queen.

Update: I have been using this comforter for almost a year and at first it was nice, if a little too small. Provided just the right amount of warmth but light enough to use in the spring/summer. However, I would not buy it again because, after using it for a few months, all the down fell to the bottom. I tried to shake the comforter to get the down filling distributed but it did not work. I flipped the comforter around but now the big "wad" of down is under my chin and my feet get cold. Moved from 2 stars down to 1.

I owned a nice down comforter prior to buying this one and the quality was definitely superior... just wish I remembered where I got it!
