I bought this book along with the other three in the set. All of the books have the exact same first 42 pages, which is great if you're only buying one, but a waste if you buy all four, mostly since it's background information. Of the 50 or so pages of actual workout diagrams, three-quarters are in the other three books, so it's not like the book is only for your back/ thighs/ or other titled areas. I gave this book a two stars because I thought $10 was a little steep for maybe 10 new exercises in each book. This books picture also gives the impression that it is spiral bound, which it is not. It has a paper binding only.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets cranky backs started on pilates., July 31, 2005

This review is from: Pilates Personal Trainer Back Strengthening Workout: Illustrated Step-by-Step Matwork Routine (Paperback)
I had purchased Ungaro's Body in Motion and Siler's Pilates Body to begin doing pilates, as they were generally the most respected texts. But my back couldn't handle the most basic level of some of the introductory exercises. This book, however, along with Tia Stanmore's Pilates Back Book, has given me a sequence of exercises and modifications that will get me where I want to be. This book is brief, but does not claim to give you a complete pilates program -- just preliminary and, later, supplemental exercises for those of us with cranky backs. The Ungaro and Siler books are generally superior in terms of illustration and textual guidance, but without this book I'd be quitting and/or hurting before I ever got going with Pilates.
