Save you money,
By Sandra (CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pilates For Pregnancy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've been doing pilates for about 1 1/2 years so I'm familiar with alot of the moves. When I got pregnant, I wanted to to find a video that would enable me to safely continue pilates past the 1st trimester. While Pilates for Pregnancy has all the classic pilates moves and good clear explanations, it was not helpful for me in that I could not perform these moves in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Because I was uncomfortable laying on my back, I wasn't able to do a majority of the moves and I was disappointed to see that there were very few modifications for women in this condition. I ended up showing this video to my pilates instructor who then showed me further modifications that do not involve laying on my back. She also commented that some of these moves are a bit advanced for a pregnant women to perform. I agree as even with some pilates conditioning, I could not comfortably do things like "the corkscrew" while pregnant. If you're uncomfortable on your back or don't have a lot of experience with pilates, it would be much better to actually go to a pilates mat class and ask the teacher for modifications rather than buy this video.

No Modifications for Pregnancy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pilates For Pregnancy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have to say I am very surprised by the overwhelming positive response to this workout listed on this site. I found there to be absolutely no modifications in this "Pregnancy" workout than in any other Pilates workouts. I was very uncomfortable with all the positions lying on your back, and I was advise to not do this workout past the first trimester. I had been doing Mari Windsors Pilates routine prior to pregancy and it's almost the exact same routine with no changes for the pregnant body. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this video for a PREGNANT woman.

Excellent pregnancy video,

One word describes this video. Excellent!!! I am a mother of 3 and soon to be 4. I am sick and tired of all those that think you are sick when you're pregnant, and you shouldn't exercise. In all of my pregnancies I have always worked out. I too waited by the mailbox for this video to arrive and I am extremely happy with it. My doctor reviewed the tape and was impressed. I am in my second trimester now, and I have been following Melinda's program 2 - 3 times a week since I got it. I can honestly say that I do not remember feeling as great as I do now in any of my last 3 pregnancies. The program is safe, effective and easy to follow. I think the proof is in the pudding. I am much more mobile this pregnancy than I have ever been. I am also much older this time as compared to my age during my first pregnancy. I attribute my strength and control in this pregnancy to this video, and I will be purchasing Melinda's "Pilates After Pregnancy" video, which I understand will be available soon. I read a review that said, "thou shalt not exercise lying on one's back while pregnant." Well, I rested, slept, and have done exercise on my back during all of my pregnancies. My doctor said most women lie on their back while pregnant without any problems. For the record, at no time in this video, are you lying on your back without moving. I have done Pilates for some time and can see that Melinda has modified most of the exercises so that they are safe for pregnant women. She has you always moving and never on you're back for a long time. I rate this video a solid 10 and recommend it. I am glad to see that someone finally broke through the all of the hype about lying on your back. Thank you Melinda I am forever grateful. By the way, I have the "Buns of Steel 8" video and would not recommend it to anyone.

Disappointed,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pilates For Pregnancy [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have done both pilates and yoga prepregnancy and I wanted to keep this up through my pregnancy. This video is a good pilates video for a woman that isn't pregnant, but it contains many exercises that a pregnant woman shouldn't do after the first trimester. I have been told by a number of sources, including my doctor, that you should eliminate exercises that are performed while flat on your back or while you're standing in one place for long periods, as both can reduce blood flow to the fetus. A lot of this video is done while lying flat on your back. Don't waste your money on this video if you have others, just continue with the others and skip the exercises that are done while laying flat on your back.

This entire exercise video has worked for me through the first half of my second pregnancy. I eliminated many of the exercises in my third trimester but was able to do some of the video's "picture in picture" modified exercises that could be done sitting or on my side. I think they did a great job of modifying the more difficult exercises. I have never really been a person to exercise on a regular basis, so for me some of the exercises were difficult at first, but after a few weeks I was able to do most if not all of the exercises. This time I felt so good that I continued to exercise through my third trimester! I just had my baby, and can't wait to get back to it. I love Pilates!

I was disappointed by this tape,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pilates For Pregnancy (DVD)
I bought this tape and was disappointed to see so many back lying exercises. I am an avid Pilates student and was upset that this tape didn't change the exercises for pregnancy. I was ready to give up when a fellow Pilates student told me about Sarah Picot's Prenatal Pilates DVD. I bought it and was so happy that it had workouts for each part of my pregnancy. I am now able to do Pilates! So, I wouldn't recommend this tape but there are alternatives out there!

I own quite a few non-pregnancy Pilates DVDs. I really don't see much difference between this one and my other DVDs. She does give a few modifications, but most of it is the same moves. I'm not finding it to be uncomfortable (unless you count all of the times that I lay down and then sit up on the next pose...) really. I probably didn't need this based on what I already had, but I really wasn't sure in advance if the moves were safe for pregnancy. I would recommend it, but NOT if you already have other Pilates tapes.

A great pregnancy exercise tape.,

I had done pilates before getting pregnant and it is great to have a video where you can continue some of the same moves (albeit modified). I find this much more enjoyable than the Fit Mama with Liesa Hart. I got very bored repeating the combination over and over without changes. This tape helps stretch out my back and strengthen my stomach muscles -- I have not had any lower back problems and I'm at the end of my fifth month. One word of caution -- take this tape slowly if you have not done pilates before.

The best video of it's type.,

I own several Pilates videos like this - this is definately the best one I have seen so far. Easy to understand and follow. Great instruction - and is divided into 5 seperate workouts so does not get old. Also has by far the most professional look to it. Strongly recommend.

not that great,

This was overall not that great. I found the instructor to be boring and cannot imagine doing a lot of the moves at the end of my pregnancy. I am much happier with my Fitmama DVD.
