Editorial Reviews

Review

"Lee Kravitz has brilliantly captured the spirit of searching so many of us feel. Pilgrim is the perfect book for our time—open, engaging, even suspenseful. You'll be cheering him on even as you learn more about yourself."—Bruce Feiler, bestselling author of Walking the Bible and The Secrets of Happy Families

“In Pilgrim, Lee Kravitz takes us along on his deeply-felt spiritual journey.  This is a courageous work filled with wisdom and life lessons that all of us can benefit from.”—Dave Isay, founder of StoryCorps and bestselling author of Listening Is an Act of Love and Ties That Bind

“What a beautiful, honest, enlightening, modest, and wise book this is. Lee has written a map for all us wanderers and seekers who take the perennial spiritual challenge to "Go Forth" and become the artists of our own life. Pilgrim is crackling with insights, and reminds us that the most important quality of a genuine spiritual journey is its unpredictability, but if we risk the life we have we gain a maze of grace. Thank you, Lee!”—Rabbi Irwin Kula, author of Yearnings and president of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership

“Lee Kravitz’s journey of spiritual renewal leads him right into the heart of what matters most: family, community, and love. Pilgrim is a beautiful, heartfelt book for anyone who has struggled with the big questions about passion and purpose – which is to say, everyone.”—Hope Edelman, bestselling author of Motherless Daughters and The Possibility of Everything

This was such an enjoyable read; insightful, down to earth and educational about different spiritual practices the author was seeking and I appreciated honest feedback about his journey. Not pretentious or self-indulgent - while it is a personal journey, the author writes in such a self-deprecating manner that I can laugh with him and myself along with the way. There are also not-so-light moments, and areas of doubt and anger, but it's real and relate-able. I felt I could have a conversation with him over a couple of beers at a pub for hours and never be bored. Good information for those seeking more or a change in their spirituality practice.

This was interesting enough to read to the end, but ultimately unsatisfying. The author seems way too into himself and his "journey," a lot of which is really boring. Also, there is a lot of gratuitous bashing of republicans and pretty much everyone who does not share his very New York view of politics (and I say this as a practicing Jew who was raised on the east coast by very liberal parents).

Was an interesting book, it ended I thought to abruptly, like the writer just didn't want to write anymore. He didn't really go to deep into how religious he is after completing his year, just to say that now the family is more together. That's what I took away from it

After reading this book I really felt connected to Lee and his journey to find faith. It makes you believe there is a God above and if you seek faith you will find it.
