5.0 out of 5 stars Lady Anne's wonderful account of her Journey to Nejd, December 11, 2010
This review is from: A Pilgrimage to Nejd, The Cradle of the Arab Race, A Visit to the Court of the Arab Emir, and Our Persian Campain (Unabridged Edition, Volume 1) (Paperback)
A Pilgrimage to Nejd, the Cradle of the Arab Race, sub-titled: A Visit to the Court of the Arab Emir, and Our Persian Campaign, by Lady Anne Blunt.

The English couple's 2000-mile camelback odyssey from Beirut to Haïl, thence north to Baghdad and onward to Bender Busheyh on the Persian Gulf, is related with nimble prowess and singular style. As the first European woman to penetrate the red sands of the Great Nefud Desert and the mountains of the Jebel Shammar, one is struck by her courage and serenity, as she endures a myriad of discomforts and very real hazards. Her detailed account of the horses in Emir Ibn Rashid's stables at Haïl, completely shatters W.G Palgrave's much publicized statements about there being a distinct and superior breed of `Nedjed horses'. In addition to her many discerning remarks and clarifications about the harsh terrain and its inhabitants, the book also contains a few prints and Wilfred Blunt's Historical Sketch of the Rise and Decline of Wahhabism in Arabia. There are different editions on the market priced from around $70 upwards. Reviewed by Andrew K. Steen, Author and Historian of the Arabian Horse
