I just received "Pilgrimages and Spiritual Quests in Japan (Japan Anthropology Workshop Series)" and I only read half through it. Anyway, I can easily say that this is a must for all those interested in Japanese cultural history and anthropology, a fine insight into the material and ritual experience of the sacred realm.It is kind of interesting, especially for Europeans, reading about the Santiago da Compostela Tour, the most important catholic pilgrimage in the western world, and how it is related to the equivalent tradition in the far-east. |
