2.0 out of 5 stars This Pilgrim's lack of Progress
I have heard many good things about, Pilgrim's Progress, and I have tried reading the book - couldn't get through it. Bought tapes - same results. The CD got good reviews, so once again I gave it a shot. Currently, it''s sitting in my cabinet unfinished, and will probably remain there indefinitely.

The whole premise of the book seems to be just too...

According to The Listener's Bible web site, the following is the product description for The Pilgrim's Progress (Listener's Collection of Classic Christian Literature):

"As I slept, I dreamed a dream."

So begins one of the most beloved books in all of history. Few books besides the Bible have been translated, printed, and read as often as The Pilgrim's Progress. John Bunyan's classic allegory of Christian, the Pilgrim, on his perilous journey to the Celestial City has touched hearts and minds for more than three hundred years-and still the demand continues. Introduce a new generation to this memorable story, filled with memorable characters- Evangelist, Charity, Hypocrisy, Goodwill, Obstinate, and Mr. Worldly Wiseman.

Each one offers a unique insight into the Christian life--its joys and trials, its opportunities and struggles. You'll discover The Pilgrim's Progress to be both challenging and entertaining.

Over the centuries countless souls have been transformed by John Bunyan's timeless and brilliant Pilgrim's Progress--in my estimation, one of the greatest works ever penned. I am thrilled that Max McLean has brought Bunyan's stirring words to life. I am confident that this unique production will captivate and encourage you. Ravi Zacharias

4.0 out of 5 stars This is just Part 1 of the Book, September 9, 2009

The Pilgrim's Progress (Listener's Collection of Classic Christian Literature) is delightful to listen to and you will not be disappointed but it is both abridged and only the first half of the Book. It includes Christian's journey but not Christiana's. Look for the $72 set marked down to $45 for the entire unabridged story. We had to order that set to hear the entire unabridged Book.

This is a great version of Pilgrim's Progress. The updated language is very easy to understand but it doesn't lose the richness of Bunyan's original. Max McLean uses just the right amount of drama to be effective but not over-bearing.

What can I say? The Pilgrim's Progress is one of the greatest books of all time, and this audio version is read by probably the best voice artist of our time. Max Mclean does a tremendous job, when he reads it is like you are right there on the path with Christian and his fellow travellers. I listened to the book 4 times so far. Make sure you get these cd's and be blessed!

This was an excellent product. We had to order it twice. The first time not all the disc would play in our CD player, but a replacement was sent right out and there were no more problems.

The whole premise of the book seems to be just too simplistic; too obvious, perhaps. This shall be by last attempt.
