Product Description

John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress is a timeless classic of Christian literature. Christian leaves behind his sinful life in search of the Celestial City, little knowing of the dangers and trials, and joys which will meet him on the way. John Bunyan reveals uncanny insight of human nature, and a keen perception of the spiritual realm in this fascinating allegory told with pathos and poignancy, as well as humor. Journey to the Celestial City with Christian, Christiana and their children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate version of Pilgrim's Progress, December 30, 2010

This review is from: The Pilgrim's Progress - Unabridged With Original Illustrations (Kindle Edition)
This eBook version of Pilgrim's Progress definitely deserves an "A" for tightly weaving the warmth of a good old book into the advantages of an e-book! I wish this version of Pilgrim's Progress were the first one I read. Instead of plain and dingy pages it has a very nice aesthetic appeal with decorations at the beginning of each chapter. I was really impressed with the illustrations. I thought that there would be just a few of them in the middle of the book. Instead, every few pages revealed life-infusing illustrations of the characters and their reactions to the latest drama (doesn't sound very dry and boring, right?). In addition, a hyperlinked table of contents quickly wafts you to the chapter you select. I definitely recommend this book for those days you feel the urge to cuddle up in a warm blanket with a freshly brewed cup of coffee and a good e-Book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pilgrim's Progress E-book for the money, January 7, 2011
This review is from: The Pilgrim's Progress - Unabridged With Original Illustrations (Kindle Edition)
This is not the first Pilgrim's Progress I tried for my Kindle. The cheaper ones are apparently straight from scans. They have lots of mistakes and do not have a table of contents. The original Pilgrim's Progress did not have chapters, but this one is helpfully broken up into chapters at natural points in the plot. The table of contents is hyperlinked and works well with the kindle navigation. The pictures appear to be 18th century lithographs with a 1700s feel to them. Along with the scrollwork and fonts used in the book, they help create a timeless feel for this Christian classic.

The illustrations were a definite addition to the text. Some the illustrations were on the blurry side, but on the whole they definitely added to the aesthetic of the book. There were very few typos in the text. I tried a free version of the book and I was disappointed by the number of errors and typos so I downloaded this one. This edition was clean.

Pilgrim's Progress is a timeless classic. I am reading a lot of the Puritans and how Bunyan brilliantly illustrates the themes in the conversations and the allegory itself is amazing. The book challenges me spiritually, aesthetically, and mentally. It is a joy to read as you enter into the joy of Pilgrim and Hopeful at the end.

In the words of Bunyan,

"Then I heard in my dream that all the bells in the city rang again for joy, and that it was said unto them, 'ENTER YE INTO THE JOY OF YOUR LORD.'"

it is the descent whither the scum and filth that attends conviction for sin doth continually run, and therefore it is called the Slough of Despond; for still, as the sinner is awakened about his lost condition, there ariseth in his soul many fears, and doubts, and discouraging apprehensions, which all of them get together, and settle in this place. And this is the reason of the badness of this ground. "e;
