I ordered this fountain because it was on sale and I could not pass on such a great deal. I love all kind of stones and rocks, but was disappointed when the fountain arrived per UPS and the slate looked rusty all over (not just parts of it) and I guess I expected it to be somewhat shiny but the stone has a very dull look to it. The front side, where the slate looks fairly decent, has a fairly large chunk missing on the bottom by the edge (this must have happened before shipping, because the chipped piece was not in the box). Originally we wanted to place this fountain inside of our house in the entryway, but because of the "rugged" look of the stone, it fits better outside. It provides a very tranquil sound of water flow and looks great sitting on our patio. I connected it to a timer so it only runs during the daytime. The water needs refilling depending on the weather and temperature every couple weeks; unless you want it to get really low but then you have to put up with a hollow water dripping sound, rather than the relaxing sound of flowing water. Since the fountain sits outside on the cement, the base draws water underneath, which at first I thought it might be leaking, but it is waterproof. I added more pebbles because the rocks included are not enough to cover the entire flat surface around the ball. Once the water flow is adjusted so the whole ball gets fully covered by water, the stainless steel provides a nice reflection of its surroundings and acts like a gazing ball. Overall it functions well and the water does not splatter outside of the fountain, unless it is really windy. Even though I am not thrilled with the look of this particular piece of slate of the base, I would buy this fountain again. It adds a lot to our backyard living experience.

The fountain arrived very quickly from the manufacturer in about 3 days. Packing appeared to have shifted during transport causing the stones to be released into the bottom of the box however no significant damage has been noted. I am impressed with the construction and use of waterproofing to create a functional fountain. I feel the product is well engineered and will perform beautifully.

I really like the looks of the fountain, but when my electricians came to run a line for the fountain, we saw what we thought to be scratches in the bottom - wrong - it was cracked in two places and leaked like crazy. By this time it was too late to repack and return it. I have spent $50.00 in labor and silicone trying to stop it leaking and it still leaks when it is running. The box had been opened and retaped when it was delivered.I should have refused it.Also I really don't belive it's REAL slate.

I ordered this solar fountain from Smart Solar only to find out when it arrived that it is NOT SOLAR AT ALL!! I would advise anyone ordering from this outfit to read every LITTLE detail extremely carefully. And note that when you put in a search for 'solar' fountains, it gives you more than just the solar ones - very deceiving. What happened to truth in advertising??
