Mr Cochran was my professor who taught Venture Capital, duing my MBA program at the University of Utah. Although this book was incomplete while taking this course, he used several of the chapters from it and all of the concepts from it as his basis for instruction.
Fast forward to several years later, I am in the process of creating another business and developing completing my business plan and capitalization model. Using the knowledge he bestowed on me and the impact of his instruction I felt it was imperative to reference this text again to ensure that I was covering all of my basis prior to my launch. I was pleasantly surprised to see that his articles had been combined and published as a book.
This is solid material for anyone with a good understanding of business, I highly recommend it.

When most people start a job, they have a job description and a outline of what is expected from them. Entrepreneurs and CEOs do not. This book is it. The author has a unique perspective in that he has been involved in hundreds of companies in many different sectors. It is the best book on how to run a successful business I have read. The book talks about 7 pillars of a successful company, many companies are good at a few of them, but if they learn to do all of them, they will see their company really take off. Any one in any sort of management role or anyone who has their own business (or thinking of starting one) will benefit from reading this book. I went to business school and many of the topics in this book were never even mentioned. You can either try to learn from your mistakes or read this book and avoid the pitfalls that have buried so many promising companies.

If you are looking to start a company, improve a company, or maintain excellence within your current company, this book is an absolute must read. Kirby Cochran's personal experiences and in-depth analysis give a clear blueprint for business success. I am certain that I will be using this book and the principles within for years to come.
