Editorial Reviews

Review

Modern quilting goes small in these pillow projects with a contemporary feel. Bostic, a popular quilting and sewing blogger, compiled the collection, which features luminaries from the online sewing scene. A variety of techniques are included, and the projects range from simple paneled designs that let favorite fabrics shine to intricate pieced creations. Many of the projects take a traditional quilt block, such as a drunkard's path or cathedral windows, and use bold fabric or contemporary settings to make them look fresh and new. VERDICT: Quilters who appreciate the aesthetic of modern quilting will enjoy Bostic's collection.
(Library Journal, February 15, 2013)

Freshen up any room with a new, modern pillow. Pillow Pop is filled to the brim with 25 quick-to-make pillows from some of today's hottest designers. Practice a new technique or play with cool fabric; a pillow is a great place to expand your skill and have some fun.

(McCall's Quilting, May/June 2013 Issue)

This book is part of the Design Collective series from Stash Books. You will find 25 pillows ranging from 18" to 25" square and patterned by over 20 different designers. Modern designs, fresh fabrics and easy, clear instructions will have you filling your house with pillows! Snowflake, Candy Coated Diamonds and X'S and O'S are but three of the excellent patterns to try. Techniques such as paper piecing, applique and embroidery, along with traditional quilting, make these pillows stand out. (Modern Quilts Unlimited, 5/1/13)

Cushions are not only small projects that make excellent gifts or provide an opportunity to try out a new technique or group of colours without committing time and money to a larger project. Without all that much effort, they can also be a sensational design statement in your lounge, family room or bedroom. You'll find in this book instructions for making 25 different cushions ranging in size from 18 inch to 20 inch square. Choose your favourite and make it two or three times in complementary colours. Or perhaps you could treat these designs as a different kind of sampler project, working your way through the book to develop your skills in patchwork and applique skills. That will provide you with a range of cushion covers that you can swap around throughout the year. Each cushion is shown in one or two colour photographs, accompanied by a Materials list and detailed, step-by-step instructions illustrated by line drawings as required. General instructions for making different kinds of cushion backs are provided at the end of the book.

(Australian Homespun Magazine, 5/1/13)

The Design Collective is a series of craft sewing books which showcase fresh, new projects from a select group of today's contemporary designers.
(Fabrications Quilting For You, April/May 2013)

Excellent cushions, designed to add character to your house. Good instructions, nothing is too difficult and the use of fabric patterns and colours is very clever. A matching quilt could easily be made by those into quiltmaking.

Stash Books timed the release of Ms. Bostic's book perfectly: late January is exactly when I need this kind of book! I've been a reader of Ms. Bostic's blog for several years, and am glad I didn't miss this book. After paging through with a cup of tea, I've found at least four projects I'd like to start on right this minute, and several more "challenge" projects that I might grow into a bit. I appreciate the section in the end about the different types of pillow construction, and am glad that it isn't assumed that we "just know" how to put together a pillow. And of course, the photography is excellent and appealing. I'm glad to have this little book to replace my mess of Flickr favorites-links-tutorials!

I've looked through this book a dozen times and each time I see a new pillow I want to make! Heather's keen eye for style has made this book come together beautifully. Even the most experienced sewer will not be disappointed or bored with these projects that have been collected from some of my favorite and well known designers. My goal is to sew them all!

I recently received Pillow Pop as a gift, but would have purchased this book had I not. I love this book! While I don't plan on making any pillows, I do plan on using the patterns for quilt blocks to make all kinds of quilt projects (table toppers, baby quilts, small quilts, snack mats, etc.). The patterns are fun, modern and happy - and perfect for the beginner or experienced quilter/sewist. Pillow Pop is more than just a book for pillows - it's a book containing magic seeds of quilty inspiration.

Though I have a project in this book I had not seen the finished product until recently and I find the whole thing so inspiring. There is so much variety in the projects and the designs are really beautiful. Though they are shown as pillows, they really feel like a jumping off place as you can incorporate these designs into a number of projects. I don't have a ton of time so being able to sit down with this book and make something beautiful in the time that I do have is great.
